Acetylshikonin induces apoptosis of hepatitis B virus X protein-expressing human hepatocellular carcinoma cells via endoplasmic reticulum stress.
Abstract Since it has been known that shikonin derived from a medicinal plant possesses anti-cancer activity, we wonder whether acetylshikonin (ASK), a derivate of shikonin, could be used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma cells expressing hepatitis B virus X protein (HBX), an oncoprotein from hepatitis B virus. When ASK was added to Hep3B cells stably expressing HBX, it induced apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. ASK induced upregulation and export of Nur77 to the cytoplasm and activation of JNK. The role of von Willebrand factor as a biomarker of tumor development in hepatitis B virus-associated human hepatocellular carcinoma: a quantitative proteomic based study.
We report comparative plasma proteome profiles of HBV-associated HCC and nonmalignant chronic liver diseases, including chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis. The quantification of these datasets showed altered abundance of 21 proteins in HBV-related HCC and provides a reference point for future applied and basic research. Matrine induces caspase-independent program cell death in hepatocellular carcinoma through bid-mediated nuclear translocation of apoptosis inducing factor
The objective of this study was to investigate the major determinant for the cell death induced by matrine in human hepatocellular carcinoma. We use human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HepG2 and human hepatocellular carcinoma xenograft in nude mice as models to study the action of matrine in hepatocellular cancers. Conclusions This study demonstrates specific genomic alterations in HCC/MS and points to CUL7 as a novel gene potentially involved in liver carcinogenesis associated with MS, the amplification of which might influence cell proliferation.

Hepatitis C virus NS4B blocks the interaction of STING and TBK1 to evade host innate immunity
Conclusions: In conclusion, we reported an additional mechanism for HCV evasion of host interferon responses in which viral NS4B protein targets STING/MITA to suppress the interferon signaling. Our results present important evidence for the control of interferon response by HCV, and shed more light on the molecular mechanisms underlying the persistence of HCV infection.
