Myc-Associated Zinc Finger Protein Promotes Metastasis of Papillary Thyroid Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: A high expression level of MAZ in thyroid cancer tissues was associated with a poor prognosis of patients. MAZ could affect the progression of thyroid cancer by inducing the EMT process.PMID:37664917 | DOI:10.31083/j.fbl2808162

Impacts of LncRNA NORAD on the Proliferation, Apoptosis, and Chemosensitivity of Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cells by Regulating ZNF217 through MiR-199a-3p
CONCLUSIONS: Down-regulating NORAD expression can enhance miR-199a-3p expression and inhibit ZNF217 expression, thereby inhibiting H460/DDP cell proliferation, promoting apoptosis and enhancing its DDP chemotherapy sensitivity.PMID:37653011 | DOI:10.3779/j.issn.1009-3419.2023.102.27

ZEB1 potentiates chemoresistance in breast cancer stem cells by evading apoptosis
Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Cell Res. 2023 Jun 23;1870(7):119528. doi: 10.1016/j.bbamcr.2023.119528. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChemoresistance renders a challenge to the clinics to treat breast cancer patients. Current treatment strategies are effective in mitigating tumor growth but remain largely ineffective against cancer-initiating cells or breast Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs). Epithelial-to-mesenchymal-transition (EMT) regulates breast CSC physiology. Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) is a key EMT-transcription factor that regulates breast CSC - differentiation and metastasis. However, its potential role in modu...

Identification of a novel therapeutic target for lung cancer: Mitochondrial ribosome protein L9
In this study, the screening process was based on lung cancer expression profile data and survival analysis. Mitochondrial ribosome protein L9 (MRPL9) was upregulated in lung cancer tissues and related to the poor overall survival rate and recurrence-free survival rate of lung cancer patients. Knockdown of MRPL9 inhibited the proliferation, sphere-formation, and migration ability of lung cancer cells. MRPL9 was associated with the c-MYC signaling pathway, and lung cancer patients with high expression of both MRPL9 and MYC had a poor prognosis. Furthermore, c-MYC was associated with the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EM...

OVOL2: an epithelial lineage determiner with emerging roles in energy homeostasis
Trends Cell Biol. 2023 Jun 17:S0962-8924(23)00091-0. doi: 10.1016/j.tcb.2023.05.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOvo like zinc finger 2 (OVOL2) is an evolutionarily conserved regulator of epithelial lineage determination and differentiation during embryogenesis. OVOL2 binds to DNA using zinc-finger domains to suppress epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which is critical for tumor metastasis. However, recent studies have suggested some noncanonical roles of OVOL2 that do not rely on the DNA binding of zinc-finger domains or regulation of EMT. OVOL2 and EMT regulators have emerging roles in adipogenesis, thermogenesi...

Genome-wide identification of bovine ADAMTS gene family and analysis of its expression profile in the inflammatory process of mammary epithelial cells
In this study, 19 ADAMTS family genes were identified in Bos taurus by genome-wide bioinformatics analysis, and they were unevenly distributed on 12 chromosomes. Phylogenetic analysis shows that the Bos taurus ADAMTS are divided into eight subfamilies, with highly consistent gene structures and motifs within the same subfamily. Collinearity analysis showed that the Bos taurus ADAMTS gene family is homologous to other bovine subfamily species, and many ADAMTS genes may be derived from tandem replication and segmental replication. In addition, based on the analysis of RNA-seq data, we found the expression pattern of ADAMTS g...

The oncogenic function of PLAGL2 is mediated via ASCL2 and IGF2 and a Wnt-independent mechanism in colorectal cancer
We describe the common (and near-universal) activation of the zinc finger transcription factor and Let-7 target PLAGL2 in CRC and find that it is a key driver of intestinal epithelial transformation. PLAGL2 drives proliferation, cell cycle progression, and anchorage-independent growth in CRC cell lines and non-transformed intestinal cells. Investigating effects of PLAGL2 on downstream pathways revealed very modest effects on canonical Wnt signaling. Alternatively, we find pronounced effects on the direct PLAGL2 target genes IGF2, a fetal growth factor, and ASCL2, an intestinal stem cell-specific bHLH transcription factor. ...
