Differences in the Survival of Gastric Cancer Patients after Gastrectomy according to the Medical Insurance Status.
CONCLUSIONS: The medical insurance status reflects the socioeconomic status of a patient and can influence the overall survival of gastric cancer patients. A more sophisticated analysis of the difference in the survival time between gastric cancer patients based on their socioeconomic status is necessary. PMID: 24511421 [PubMed]

Variation in receipt of therapy and survival with provider volume for medical oncology in non-curative esophago-gastric cancer: a population-based analysis
ConclusionsMedical oncology provider volume was associated with variation in non-curative management and outcomes of EGC. Care by an HV medical oncologist was independently associated with higher odds of receiving chemotherapy and superior OS, after adjusting for case mix. This information is important to inform disease care pathways and care organization; an increase in the number of HV medical oncologists may reduce variation and improve outcomes.

HOTAIR Induces Methylation of PCDH10, a Tumor Suppressor Gene, by Regulating DNMT1 and Sponging with miR-148b in Gastric Adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that HOTAIR interacts with miR-148b and DNMT1, eventually leading to PCDH10 methylation, which contributes to the progression of GC. Our findings provide a better understanding for detailed pathway of HOTAIR in epigenetic mechanism of GC.PMID:33527791 | PMC:PMC7859685 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2021.62.2.118

The Effectiveness of Postoperative Chemotherapy on pT1bN0 and pT2N0 Gastric Cancer Patients with Risk Factors: An International Dual-Center Analysis
CONCLUSION: In pT1bN0 and pT2N0 patients, age was found to be an independent prognostic factor. However, adjuvant chemotherapy seemed to be unnecessary, while postoperative chemotherapy might offer survival benefits to pT2N0 patients with more than two risk factors.PMID:33527790 | PMC:PMC7859688 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2021.62.2.109

A perianal subcutaneous metastasis as the presenting sign for lung cancer
We report a case of a 77-year-old white man who presented with a 9-day history of a painful, rapidly growing mass on his left buttock in the gluteal cleft. The deep dermal location of the neoplasm and the lack of epidermal involvement led to suspicion of a metastatic carcinoma. Imaging showed a lung lesion suspected to be a primary malignancy with distant liver and gastric fundus metastases. Lung pathology showed primarily adenocarcinoma with squamous differentiation, whereas the skin biopsy showed poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Clinically, we concluded the skin carcinoma was a metastasis of a primary lung ...
