Exploring missed opportunities for influenza vaccination and influenza vaccine co-administration patterns among Italian older adults: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: A sizeable proportion of older adults who received other recommended vaccines during the last influenza season did not receive SIV. This share of missed opportunities, which are subject to some social inequalities, may be addressed by increasing vaccine co-administration rates and implementing tailored health promotion interventions.PMID:37632235 | DOI:10.1093/eurpub/ckad155

Engaging Multistakeholder Perspectives to Identify Patient-Centered Research Priorities Regarding Vaccine Uptake Among Adults With Autoimmune Conditions
CONCLUSION: A multistakeholder group identified key topics as critically important priorities for future research to decrease vaccine hesitancy and improve uptake of vaccines for adults with autoimmune conditions.PMID:37127530 | DOI:10.1002/acr2.11546

Viral diseases of the nervous system-Selected new and old viruses
Nervenarzt. 2023 Mar 21:1-8. doi: 10.1007/s00115-023-01452-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTViral diseases of the nervous system are ancient and poliomyelitis was described in Egypt as early as 2000 BC. They can cause a wide range of neurological symptoms, such as meningitis, encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, Guillain-Barré-like syndrome and stroke, often leaving mild to severe residuals. Depending on the pathogen, the symptoms appear quickly within hours, or lead to increasing chronic symptoms within 1 week or months. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which was newly identified in January...

Myoclonus status revealing COVID 19 infection
DISCUSSION: Our patient presented with acute isolated multifocal myoclonus status without cognitive impairment. These movements were prominent, spontaneous, worsened by action, and sensitive to touch and sound. The anatomical source of this myoclonus could be cortical or subcortical despite the absence of evident EEG discharges. Several diseases can cause acute myoclonus such as severe hypoxia, metabolic disturbances, and paraneoplastic syndromes. these diagnoses were ruled out in our patient. Post-vaccinal origin was also suggested, but its accountability was not proven. Thus, the two hypothetic etiologies raised were eit...

Impact of COVID-19 Containment Strategies and Meningococcal Conjugate ACWY Vaccination on Meningococcal Carriage in Adolescents
Conclusions: Meningococcal carriage prevalence was not impacted by public health strategies to reduce severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 transmission and is unlikely to be the mechanism for lower meningococcal disease incidence. As international travel resumes and influenza recirculates, clinicians must remain vigilant for signs and symptoms of meningococcal disease. Vaccinating people at the highest risk of invasive meningococcal disease remains crucial despite containment strategies.

Invasive Pneumococcal Disease diminish during the coronavirus disease 2019 in Japan between 2019 and 2022
Streptococcus pneumoniae can cause Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) at a patient's sterile site, including the cerebrospinal fluid and blood, and commonly presents with septicemia, meningitis, and pneumonia (Dowell et al., 2003). In Japan, both children and the elderly receive public support for pneumococcal vaccination. Pneumococcal vaccine coverage has been increased since the launch of the vaccine program (Naito et al., 2020).

A Case Report of Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus and Meningitis After COVID-19 Vaccination
J Korean Med Sci. 2022 May 23;37(20):e165. doi: 10.3346/jkms.2022.37.e165.ABSTRACTThere are several reports that herpes zoster characterized by reactivation of varicella zoster virus (VZV) following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines can occur. Herein, we report VZV meningitis, herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO), and late neurotrophic keratitis after receiving a second dose of messenger RNA (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccine. A 74-year-old man developed a vesicular skin rash on the forehead, scalp, nose, and left upper eyelid with a severe headache. Five days earlier, he received a second dose of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine on ...

A 5-year look-back at the notification and management of vaccine supply shortages in Germany
ConclusionVaccine product shortages in Germany resemble those present in neighbouring EU states and often reflect increased global demand not matched by manufacturing capacities.PMID:35485267 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2022.27.17.2100167
