Outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) in Germany: insights and clinical outcomes from the K-APAT cohort study
ConclusionThe study demonstrates that OPAT can be safely conducted in Germany. In preparation for its broader implementation, crucial next steps include creating medical guidelines, fostering interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral communication, as well as creating financial and structural regulations that facilitate and encourage the adoption of OPAT.Trial registration numberNCT04002453. Pneumococcal Meningitis Induces Hearing Loss and Cochlear Ossification Modulated by Chemokine Receptors CX3CR1 and CCR2
ConclusionsPneumococcal meningitis can have devastating effects on cochlear structure and function, although not all mice experienced hearing loss or cochlear damage. Meningitis can result in rapid progression of hearing loss with fibrosis starting at four DPI and ossification within 2  weeks of infection detectable by light microscopy. The inflammatory response to bacterial meningitis is robust and can affect all three scalae. Our results suggest that CCR2 may assist in controlling infection and maintaining cochlear patency, as CCR2 knockout mice experienced more severe disease, more rapid hearing loss, and more advanced...

Antimicrobial susceptibilities of < em > Neisseria gonorrhoeae < /em > in Canada, 2021
CONCLUSION: The spread of antimicrobial-resistant gonorrhea is a significant public health concern. The continued regional and national surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in N. gonorrhoeae is essential in ensuring effective treatment therapies are recommended.PMID:38463902 | PMC:PMC10919915 | DOI:10.14745/ccdr.v49i09a05 (Source: Can Commun Dis Rep)

Clinical and microbiological profile of Viridans group streptococcal bacteraemia; experience from South India
CONCLUSIONS: VGS are an important cause of bacteraemia and was associated with 19% mortality in our study. High rates of penicillin and ceftriaxone resistance are a reason of concern. Molecular diagnostics like matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight (MALDI-TOF) identification must be increasingly applied for species identification considering that a substantial number of isolates were not identified to species level.PMID:38456022 | PMC:PMC10917554 | DOI:10.53854/liim-3201-5 (Source: Infezioni in Medicina)
