How closely does medical research have to align with chosen specialty like dermatology?
Med student here looking at potential research mentors. I'm exploring the dermatology field and am in talks with one mentor about melanoma. However, their research kind of delves far more into the brain metastasis of melanoma and really less about the skin side of melanoma. Of course, I will have to think about whether I'm truly interested in their research because I feel like nothing is worse than doing research that I'm not truly interested in, unless it's not finding a research mentor at... Does a uk img have a good shot at residency if they didn ’t go to oxbridge/ucl/imperial?
I am aware that it is hard to match as an img, that with usmle step one being pass/fail it will be even harder, my options will most likely be family med or paeds etc. I see in threads here that uk imgs have a good chance if they attended the schools in the title as they are “prestigious” and I have only seen discussion related to people who attended them. My school is a top 100 in medical research and one of the oldest in the uk but not really “prestigious”. How much chance would I have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I choose graduate entry medicine in Ireland or undergraduate medicine UK ?
I'm in Ireland study biomedical science and at stage one, but I got medicine offer in the UK, should I dropped it out and go to the UK to study medicine? I love medicine, but if I go to the UK I have to pay international student tuition, it is quite high. The second choice is to do post-graduate medicine in Ireland, as an Irish, I can pay as a local student fee, but I need to do MCAT and much relative medical research or experience. can anyone help me to analyze my situation and make a... Retake MCAT vs. Month service trip/Medical Research
Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice on how I should spend my next couple of months to make myself more competitive for this upcoming cycle. I'm taking the MCAT this Saturday, and am anticipating a score in the 504-508 range. I haven't studied as much as I'd like for it, so I'm trying to decide if I should already plan to retake it in July. Right now, I have a volunteer trip to Latin America planned for May, and then I have the opportunity to come back and work for a hospital... Why research if I want to be a doctor?
I'm 3 months deep into a research internship and am discovering that I do not enjoy scientific medical research so much that I would pursue it solely. In other words, it looks like I will lean towards the clinical/surgical side of things. This is good that I am discovering it now but I am worried about what this may mean bigger picture. The reason I am drawn to the profession of physician is because of the caring and diagnosing of individual patient disease and difficulties. I value the... Why research if I want to be a doctor? Medical field with a Chemical Engineering Degree
Hello, I am currently a sophomore in chemical engineering and it has ruptured my GPA. Nonetheless, I am not sure if I should obtain a chemical engineering internship or a medical research internship. After freshmen year, I had a research internship at a well-known hospital. I am just not sure if I should look well-rounded by having a chemical engineering internship, or to just stick with what I wish to be in the future and obtain another research internship at another hospital?
