Does 1-year medical LOA affect psychiatry residency match?
Hello, I am currently an M2 in an MD program that's been recently struggling academically due to some mental health issues. I've had to take about ~6 weeks of time for myself to work through my issues, which I think are being better managed now (i.e. some med changes, weekly therapy, etc). However, this time has cost me a lot in terms of feeling prepared for my clerkships/shelf exams. My school suggested there's the possibility of taking a Leave of Absence (i.e. medical, research, etc), in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

GPT-4 and medical research apps
I’m sure many of you have asked GPT-4 medical questions. The overall results are incredible, and I wanted to see what AI apps everyone was testing out thus far. GPT-4 is the most well known Dr. Gupta from Martin Shkreli is another (it is very similar to GPT-4) Dr. Gupta: AI Physician Chatbot Dr. Gupta can provide personalized health information and suggestions. drgupta.ai I just found DrOracle which is cool because it uses a Research Assistant “Metaoracle” and actually pulls numerous references. ...

Medical research during high school
Is medical research from junior year in high school appropriate to put on med school application if it resulted in me getting a middle author on a journal paper? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How do I not be a cookie cutter
My biggest pre-med fear is if the ECs I have been doing are viewed as nothing but “box-checking” by Adcoms. I have been trying for 4 months now, but it is ridiculously hard to get a foot into things that both interest me and are viewed as interesting by Adcoms. Labs that do interesting medical research only work with upper undergraduate students, Hurricane Ian volunteer relief group are a 2 hour drive from me, all my hobbies are unremarkable and not genuine talents It’s all really... RUSM student on MD vs DO
Episode 6: MD vs DO MD or DO? In this episode, one of our grads discusses the differences and similarities between a Medical Doctor and a Doctor of Osteopathy, and why she chose her path. medical.rossu.edu Interesting stuff here. This Ross MD breaks down why they chose the Carib route over DO.. the biggest takeaway was "I wanted an internationally recognized degree"and because of "research "...... like there is even an iota of medical research happening on dominica or wherever Ross is now.... also mentioned how more DO's go into...

SOAP advice, thank you!
Hi, Happy New Year ! Everyone. I am a non-US IMG who is now preparing for 2022 SOAP. Could I ask you some questions about SOAP? My credentials: step 1 240 step 2 230 OET passed, ECFMG certified, 4 LOR. 3 months clinical observership. I applied to 331 IM programs and got no interviews. My YOG was 2009. I was out of clinical practice for 7 years and was doing medical research in these 7 years. Anyway, no matter how hard I explained to PDs by email. No one offered me any interview invitations... How closely does medical research have to align with chosen specialty like dermatology? Basic Science vs Clinical Research
Was recommended to post this here to run by actual dermatologists! Current med student here looking at potential research mentors. I'm exploring the dermatology field and am in talks with a few potential mentors. There is one clinical research project with a mentor/fellow about melanoma. However, their research kind of delves far more into the organ metastasis of melanoma and really less about the skin side of melanoma. On the other hand, I have an offer from a dermatology professor with a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How closely does medical research have to align with chosen specialty like dermatology?
Med student here looking at potential research mentors. I'm exploring the dermatology field and am in talks with one mentor about melanoma. However, their research kind of delves far more into the brain metastasis of melanoma and really less about the skin side of melanoma. Of course, I will have to think about whether I'm truly interested in their research because I feel like nothing is worse than doing research that I'm not truly interested in, unless it's not finding a research mentor at...
