Preoperative and early adjuvant weight loss medications in bariatric surgery patients with body mass index over 60 or suboptimal initial response to surgery
CONCLUSION: For patients having bariatric surgery who fall below the expected MBSAQIP weight loss curve, early initiation of antiobesity medications can improve the weight loss, with preoperative pharmacotherapy having the greatest effect.PMID:36948971 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.01.021 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Assessment of the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) for Phentermine-Topiramate to Prevent Exposure During Pregnancy
CONCLUSION: Prenatal exposure seemed to be significantly lower among phentermine-topiramate users under the REMS. Pregnancy testing and contraceptive use appeared to be inadequate for all groups, which deserves attention to prevent the remaining potential exposures.PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE: None.PMID:36940443 | DOI:10.7326/M22-1743 (Source: Annals of Internal Medicine)

Current treatment landscape for obesity in Singapore
Singapore Med J. 2023 Mar;64(3):172-181. doi: 10.4103/singaporemedj.SMJ-2022-216.ABSTRACTThe rising prevalence of obesity in Singapore is a harbinger for a corresponding increase in obesity-related complications such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and coronary heart disease. Obesity is a complex disease driven by multiple factors, and hence, treatment cannot follow a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. Lifestyle modifications involving dietary interventions, physical activity and behavioural changes remain the cornerstone of obesity management. However, similar to other chronic diseases such as T2DM and hypertension, lifesty...
