I have completed my family and at 47 I wanted to get my life back as I felt as though my life was worked around my period. Holidays, days out, shopping and the relationship with my husband. So on 7th of February I had surgery a full hysterectomy. The operation went well, but I want to inform others of some things I was not told would happen after surgery. I arrived back from theatre i had self admitted morphine pump, a catheter and drip. TAH hysterctomy, large fibroid – Lisa ’ s story
Conclusion – I do not regret my decision to have a hysterectomy at all. For me, it was the right decision so far. I didn’t think the big lump that was very noticeable in my stomach was an issue as I was used to it but now I cannot feel that or my cervix (which was 2 inches above my belly button) it is lovely. I have, by no means, a flat stomach now but I hope with healthy eating and daily exercise the swelling will go down and I will regain feeling in my lower stomach. I think you have to expect a certain amount of pain and discomfort at the start and I would definitely recommend whatever pain relief you feel y...

My debilitating endometriosis symptoms – Kate ’ s story
Hi, I’m Kate, 39, married with no children. I had always suffered from heavy and painful periods but this had mostly been managed by taking the combined pill. My periods remained heavy and I suffered from some flooding but this was manageable with planning! Approximately 7 years ago my periods became worse and I started to experience more symptoms such as regular and frequent abdominal pain, random bleeding, bloating, very painful intercourse and things just didn’t feel right. Anyway, I went to the Dr’s who straight away suggested that it sounded like I had endometriosis and referred me to a consultant. A...

CUNY researchers seek to improve welfare in captive birds of prey through olfactory enrichment
(The City University of New York) For the first time, researchers are exploring ways to improve welfare in captive birds of prey through olfactory enrichment -- or using scent cues to alleviate boredom and encourage species-appropriate behavior. A new study appearing in Zoo Biology found that birds of prey, which had learned to associate the presence of food with the scent of peppermint oil, interacted more with peppermint-scented 'sham' packages (i.e. without food) than unscented 'sham' packages.
