On the verge of crying at the oral boards
The oral boards. There were good times and bad times. The good times where when the ball was hit out of the ballpark. However, there were the bad times. One question, I could not make head or tails out of it. Skip it? Or try it? "I'm sorry, but this is blurry to me". (it is blurry) "I see ....(this), (or this), (or that) [describing 3 different structures in the eye]. I just have named 3 structures in the eye so 2 of them are wrong. It's as if I said "I see either a spleen, pancreas, or... On the verge of crying at the oral boards (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need adivce about a letter of rec after my mentor who was supposed to write it passed away suddenly
Hi all, I have a bit of a unique situation as the title explained. A professor who I had formed a good relationship with and who was on the curriculum board for our university's medical school, was going to write a letter attesting to how he believed I would excel in medical school, especially with our curriculum, suddenly passed away from pancreatic cancer about two weeks ago. After dealing with that, I assumed the letter of rec he was writing for me was not going to happen. I was all set... GI pathology fellowship
Hi, I recently matched to a pathology residency position. I am interested in GI pathology fellowship but realize that it is very competitive. I have done 2 weeks of GI path elective and also participated in basic science research in Pancreatic cancer, but have no publications. I would appreciate advice from seniors on 1. How to prepare my application and what would be the best strategy for GI path fellowship from day one( I am an IMG) 2. Does having publications in other areas( before the... Admitting cancer
Question for the attendings on this forum. What is your practice if in your workup you find evidence of a previously unknown malignancy? I'm not talking about a pulmonary nodule. I mean, hepatic mass, pancreatic mass, renal, whatever. The patient's workup is otherwise benign. Maybe they have some persistent pain in the associated area. Are you admitting these patients for further workup and management? DC to home? Of course it will sometimes depend on how likely you feel patient is to be... Does this patient have pancreatitis?
Have a patient who had N/V, diarrhea and epigastric pain. CT scan with contrast showed diffuse mild thickening of colon and small bowel representing enterocolitis; pancreas had no abnormality. Lipase 7000s and patient did have epigastric tenderness on exam. Is this consistent with pancreatitis or does the ct scan rule it out? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Talk about a specialty you're interested in during an interview?
I have an interview coming up at my alma mater. I lost a family member to pancreatic cancer and got involved in pancreatic cancer research for 3 years with 2 publications, in a prestigious lab at that school. I know the Chief of Surgical Oncology and interviewed him for a documentary I did for a class at that hospital. I spoke with a premed advisor who told me not to tell them what I am interested, and that it could hurt my interview. Is this true, even if my application is geared toward a... Student loan forgiveness for serious medical illness?
I am an MS3. I was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis six months ago. I showed signs of it in my teens but no one put the pieces of the puzzle together until I started medical school and became much sicker. My pancreas has almost no exocrine function left, my lungs have cultured pseudomonas and s. aureus, and my doc tells me I have a very high likelihood of developing cystic fibrosis related diabetes. Needless to say, I have had a rough time and even after clearing the infections, doing... Student loan forgiveness for serious medical illness? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
