Teens Are ‘Juuling’ At School. Here’s What That Means
The most popular product in the booming e-cigarette market doesn’t look like a cigarette at all. The Juul, a trendy vape that resembles a flash drive and can be charged in a laptop’s USB port, accounted for 33% of the e-cigarette market as of late 2017, according to Wells Fargo data. And while the product is made for and legally available only to adults older than 21, its “growth appears to be due to growth with the 18 to 24 year old age group,” according to a Wells Fargo report. In many cases, media reports suggest, these devices are being used by kids and teenagers even younger than that — w...

Reposted with permission from Cochrane Australia.Published recently, the sixth update of the Cochrane Review on Psychosocial interventions for supporting women to stop smoking in pregnancy weighs up the evidence on a critical health and social equity issue. New Study Finds E-Cigarettes Are Much Safer And Less Toxic Than Tobacco
Consuming e-cigarettes is far safer and less toxic than smoking conventional tobacco cigarettes, according to the findings of a study analyzing levels of dangerous and cancer-causing substances in the body. Researchers found that people who switched from smoking regular cigarettes to e-cigarettes or nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) such as gum or patches for at least six months had much lower levels of toxins in their saliva and urine than those who continued to smoke. “Our study adds to existing evidence showing that e-cigarettes and NRT are far safer than smoking, and suggests that there is a very low risk associ...

Long-term vaping 'far safer than smoking' says 'landmark' study
Conclusion This cross-sectional study aimed to assess whether there are differences in levels of nicotine and toxic chemicals in cigarette smokers, and former or current smokers who are also long-term users of e-cigarettes or NRT. E-cigarettes are designed for users to inhale nicotine without most of the harmful effects of smoking. There has been much discussion over the benefits of vaping over conventional smoking methods and this is the first long-term study assessing these effects. The main findings are not that surprising – former smokers who have now switched to using e-cigarettes or NRT only have significantly low...

E-cigarettes 'help thousands successfully quit smoking'
Conclusion Stopping smoking remains the best thing you can possibly do for your health. Anything that can help reduce the number of people who smoke is likely to have a good impact on health. But although this study found e-cigarette use was linked to an increase in successful quit attempts, there are a number of things to be aware of: Attempting to quit with e-cigarettes alone may not be as helpful as attempting to quit using an NHS stop smoking service. Getting support and help for a quit attempt is thought to increase your chances of success fourfold. You can use NHS services and e-cigarettes together if you wish. ...

Quitting Smoking? Expect a Lot of Failure Before You Succeed
Quitting smoking is so hard that most smokers kick themselves for even starting. Not everyone who smokes enjoys it, as evident by the nearly 7 out of 10 smokers who've said they want to quit completely. While many smokers have switched to e-cigarettes, those people shouldn't be considered nonsmokers. They're still slaves to nicotine. It's just delivered in a less flammable way. But quitting -- as in getting out of nicotine addiction once and for all -- takes way more than a little willpower. A study recently appearing in BMJ Open suggests the number of times it takes to quit smoking for good is much higher that experts...
