Lobbying Turns Green
David BoazI don ’t mean to keep writing the same article about lobbying and special interests over and over. But the federal government keeps creating more and more opportunities for special interests to hire lobbyists. This weekThe Economist writes, with up to $800bn in clean ‐energy handouts now up for grabs over the coming decade, …The energy industry as a whole spent nearly $300m last year on lobbying, the most since 2013 (see chart 1). Big oil and electric utilities, which had been reducing their spending on influence ‐seeking before 2020, haveramped it up again; spending is growing in line with that...

Doctors: We must fight against frivolous lawsuits
Lawyers assert that they never file a frivolous lawsuit. All malpractice claims are legitimate because there is a reasonable suspicion of fault when a case is filed. Don ’ t be caught off guard: Read your malpractice policy today
We must confess: We both have Apple iPhones and have never read Apple’s user or licensing agreements. Have you? We assume that most of you have not read Apple’s agreements. Ruling out
People who, for ideological reasons,  don ' t actually want to do what is necessary to solve the problem of excessive spending  on health care often claim that the real problem is the cost of malpractice insurance. So they propose " tort reform " as the solution. The argument is that it isn ' t just the direct cost of insurance that ' s to blame, but also that physicians practice " defensive medicine, " ordering unnecessary tests and procedures, to avoid possible liability.First, let ' s just get the extent of the problem, if any, out of the way. The best estimate is that liability costs -- including both compone...

A tale of medical malpractice, the legal system, and a fight for justice
I have been fortunate in my forty-five-year medical career never to have been sued for the care I delivered to a patient. Insurance company vs. doctor: How the defense and settlement provisions in malpractice contracts favor carriers
In a medical malpractice lawsuit, your defense is completely in the hands of the malpractice carrier, and, make no mistake of it, its interests come first. Senior Gynaecologist fined for doing Anomaly Scan as it missed the Anomaly, Important Judgment
According to https://advrohiterande.blogspot.com/2023/01/a-senior-gynaecologist-fined-for-doing.html it appears to be a case of medical malpractice where Dr. Usha Mukhi, a gynaecologist, is being held liable for not detecting a congenital abdominal wall defect during an ultrasound examination of a patient ' s pregnancy. The patient, Seema Deswal, argues that the Dr. Mukhi should have referred her to a qualified radiologist and that the anomaly could have been detected earlier and the baby could have been aborted within 20 weeks of pregnancy.
