Qualitative Research Informing a Preference Study on Selecting Cannabis for Cancer Survivor Symptom Management: Design of a Discrete Choice Experiment
ConclusionsThis qualitative study outlines the preference evidence collected regarding Canadian cancer survivors ’ decisions to manage their symptoms with cannabis to inform a DCE quantitative survey. It contributes to transparent reporting of qualitative work in DCE development and to understanding cancer survivors’ preferences regarding medicinal cannabis consumption under legalization. What is the Most Valid and Reliable Compassion Measure in Healthcare? An Updated Comprehensive and Critical Review
AbstractOur previous review of compassion measures in healthcare between 1985 and 2016 concluded that no available measure assessed compassion in healthcare in a comprehensive or methodologically rigorous fashion. The present study provided a comparative review of the design and psychometric properties of recently updated or newly published compassion measures. The search strategy of our previous review was replicated. PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PsycINFO databases and grey literature were searched to identify studies that reported information on instruments that measure compassion or compassionate care in clinicians, phy...

Will the Public Engage with New Pharmacy Roles? Assessing Future Uptake of a Community Pharmacy Health Check Using a Discrete Choice Experiment
ConclusionFindings affirm the public ’s acceptance and value of a pharmacy-led CVD health check. The findings can inform pharmacy-based screening services before they are introduced, guide new service design and support resource allocation decisions. Patient and Public Preferences for Coordinated Care in Switzerland: Development of a Discrete Choice Experiment
ConclusionThis article will be useful to researchers designing DCEs from a broad health policy perspective. The multistage approach involving a range of stakeholders was essential for the development of a DCE that is relevant for policy makers and well-accepted by the general public and patients. Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Used for Assessing Breast Sensation after Mastectomy: Not Fit for Purpose
ConclusionPatient-reported outcome measures used in clinical studies for assessing sensation after mastectomy and breast reconstruction are unsuitable for this purpose: they are either non-validated or non-specific. We failed to identify any measures for use in non-oncologic breast surgery populations worth modifying. To collect meaningful, patient-relevant data regarding sensation after mastectomy, it is pertinent that future clinical trials adopt psychometrically robust, specific patient-reported outcome measures. Time to See the Difference: Video Capture for Patient-Centered Clinical Trials
AbstractDeveloping therapeutics for the treatment of rare diseases usually requires a strong understanding of the natural history of the disease. Often, it also requires the creation of novel assessment tools and clinical trial endpoints. In diseases where mobility is impacted, the use of video to capture the impact of the disease and the assessment of specific parameters, such as gait and stride length, can help design sensitive endpoints. Video as an assessment tool also allows the use of historical videos or videos filmed by non-experts outside of clinical settings. Given the increased use of telemedicine, the use of vi...

A Systematic and Critical Review of Discrete Choice Experiments in Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
ConclusionsDCEs in asthma and COPD have focused on treatment benefits and convenience, with less evidence generated on participants ’ risk tolerance. Quality criteria and reporting standards are needed to promote study quality and ensure consistency in reporting between studies. (Source: The Patient - Patient-Centered Outcomes Research)
