Promoting Gender-Based Health Equity Through Graduate Nursing Education
Gender plays a pivotal role in patients ’ health due to its influence on health behaviors, health care engagement, and the quality of care received. To truly achieve health equity for all, providers must be aware of gender-based discrimination within health care and be equipped with skills to combat sources of gender-based health dispar ities. The following report discusses the development and implementation of a graduate-level elective course for the purpose of increasing the ability of future nurse practitioners to recognize and mitigate gender-based health disparities. Starting a Follow-up Clinic for Patients Who Experience Sexual Violence
There are more than 450,000 new victims of sexual assault each year in the United States. Utah averages 55.5 rapes per 100,000 women, costing an estimated $5 billion annually. Long-term consequences affect mental health (depression, anxiety, mood swings, sleep, and paranoia) and physical health (painful sexual intercourse, painful menstruation, lack of sexual pleasure, and other gynecologic concerns). Current federal guidelines recommend an initial forensic evaluation plus follow-up care to mitigate the sequela. (Source: The Journal for Nurse Practitioners)

Top Reasons for Serving as a Peer Reviewer for JNP
Years ago, I was a big fan of a regular segment on The Late Show with David Letterman titled, “The Top Ten List.” Each night Letterman would count down (in reverse order) the top 10 items that revolved around a particular theme, culminating with the top item. With this in mind I submit to JNP readers the top 7 reasons for serving as a peer reviewer for JNP, starting with reason #7. Notab ly, I was unable to identify 10 reasons, so I welcome correspondence from readers to add to my list! (Source: The Journal for Nurse Practitioners)

Diffuse Rash Followed by Erosions on the Lips and Mouth
This is the case of a patient who presented with a chief complaint of mouth pain and a nonpruritic rash over her arms and hands bilaterally as a diagnostic challenge. The symptoms began 2 weeks before the patient sought care. This case aims to highlight the importance of obtaining a thorough history and physical examination and identifying key features that will inform the differential diagnosis. The case reviews the varying differentials that aid the clinician in recognizing rare dermatologic conditions to avoid long-term disability and unnecessary morbidity and mortality. Barriers to Expedited Partner Therapy
Expedited partner therapy is an intervention that was intended to address the growing public health crisis of sexually transmitted infections in the United States. Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis infections are eligible for expedited partner treatment without a visit with a provider. Reduction of reinfection rates is key to reducing the incidence of poor gynecologic and reproductive outcomes along with the spread of infection among at-risk populations. Expedited partner therapy has been legalized federally, but not all states have adopted this method. (Source: The Journal for Nurse Practitioners)
