Centering Diverse Perspectives in Women ’s Health Nursing Courses
I am an associate professor and the midwifery program director at Fairfield University ’s Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, where I have been teaching for the past decade. Through deepening my own diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work, I have purposefully incorporated more diverse perspectives, particularly Black women’s experiences, into the women’s health and mi dwifery courses I teach. My “aha” moment related to the necessity of this work occurred a few years ago. I was facilitating a group discussion about maternal mortality rates in the United States, and the disparities Black women face being...

Following the Golden Rule
As a kid who spent many of his formative education years in Catholic school, I was constantly inundated with the imperative to follow the old adage of the “golden rule.” That is, treat others as you would want to be treated. Pediatric Low Vitamin D Treatment Guideline Recommendations: An Integrative Review
This integrative review found 7 professional clinical practice guidelines or recommendations for treating low vitamin D (LVD) or vitamin D deficiency (VDD) in infants, children, and adolescents. Treatment recommendation considerations varied by age group, severity, daily versus weekly dosing, treatment length, need for follow-up testing and maintenance therapy after treatment completion. These inconsistencies make treatment recommendations for health care providers difficult to navigate. Terminology variations for LVD or VDD are discussed. The Role of RNA Interference Therapeutics in Hypercholesterolemia and Implications for Practice
An estimated 80% of patients with dyslipidemia do not reach their targeted low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol goals. Despite the use of traditional lipid-lowering therapies, challenges exist in getting patients to goal. Long-acting RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutics represent the next generation of medication that can provide up to 50% reduction of low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, with few adverse effects for patients who need additional therapy or are intolerant or nonadherent to statin therapy. A Concept Analysis: Patient Empowerment in Previvor Women Diagnosed with BRCA1/2 Mutations
Individuals may experience negative psychological consequences if diagnosed with Breast Cancer gene 1 or 2 (BRCA1/2) mutations, which can negatively impact health. A clear definition of patient empowerment among individuals with BRCA1/2 genetic predispositions is needed to determine strategies for managing uncertainty faced by these women. The aim of this concept analysis was to construct a definition of patient empowerment in women diagnosed with BRCA1/2 mutations.
