Sulbactam-Durlobactam in the Treatment of Carbapenem-Resistant < em > Acinetobacter baumannii < /em > Infections
CONCLUSIONS: SUL-DUR has shown to be predominantly noninferior to alternative antibiotics in the treatment of pneumonias caused by CRAB, making it a viable treatment option. Further postmarketing data is needed to ascertain its role in other infections.PMID:37817550 | DOI:10.1177/10600280231204566 (Source: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy)

Incorporation of Innovative Strategies for Patient Education in Pharmacist-Led Transition of Care Initiatives
Ann Pharmacother. 2023 Oct 10:10600280231204118. doi: 10.1177/10600280231204118. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs patients transition between health care settings, they are at an increased risk of adverse events and medication errors as a result of medication changes and miscommunication. Pharmacists have traditionally provided transitions of care (TOC) services, including patient education, in a face-to-face manner with the goal of reducing medication errors and enhancing patient safety and understanding. However, changes in care delivery models, a burdened health care workforce, and diminishing resources necessitate inno...

Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole vs Minocycline for the Treatment of Nonurinary Monomicrobial < em > Stenotrophomonas maltophilia < /em > Infections in Hospitalized Patients
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Rates of clinical failure, clinical improvement, or clinical success were similar between MIN and SXT for nonurinary monomicrobial S. maltophilia infections.PMID:37776160 | DOI:10.1177/10600280231201850 (Source: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy)

Pharmacokinetics of Levetiracetam Seizure Prophylaxis in Severe Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSION AND RELEVANCE: Neurocritically ill patients exhibit rapid levetiracetam clearance resulting in a short elimination half-life. Findings of this study suggest regimens of levetiracetam 500 mg every 6 hours, 1000 mg every 8 hours, or 2000 mg every 12 hours may be required for optimal therapeutic target attainment. Patient weight of 75 kg may serve as a breakpoint for weight-guided dosing to optimize levetiracetam therapeutic target attainment for seizure prophylaxis.PMID:37776163 | DOI:10.1177/10600280231202246 (Source: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy)

The Impact of Ketamine for Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analyses
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Ketamine modestly reduced PTSD and depression scores as early as 1 day of therapy, but the longevity of effect needs to be determined. Given similar magnitude of benefit with SSRIs and venlafaxine, ketamine would not supplant these traditional options for chronic use.PMID:37776285 | DOI:10.1177/10600280231199666 (Source: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy)
