Impedance planimetry and panometry (EndoFLIP ™) can replace manometry in preoperative anti-reflux surgery assessment
ConclusionImpedance planimetry and panometry can assess motility under general anesthesia or sedation and is highly sensitive to peristaltic dysfunction. Panometry is a novel tool that has potential to streamline and improve patient care and therefore should be considered as an alternative to HRM, especially in patients in which HRM would be inaccessible or poorly tolerated. Effect of gender discordance on surgical outcomes in predominantly female patient surgeries in NYS
Conclusion(s)Overall, our results show DC between patient and surgeon has  significant effect on patient outcomes. A negative effect is seen for female patients in certain specialties, most pronounced in foregut surgery. This emphasizes need for surgeons to be conscious of care provided to opposite gender patients and underscores increasing female surgeons in high FP f ields.Graphical abstract (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Lumen-apposing metal stents versus traditional self-expanding metal stents for endoscopic ultrasound-guided drainage of pancreatic fluid collections: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionCompared to traditional SEMS, LAMS has a higher clinical success rate, faster procedure time, fewer adverse events, similar hospital stay and lower recurrence rate in EUS-guided drainage of PFCs. LAMS is a good choice with a high technical success rate over 95%, and using a shorter length or “one-step” operation can further improve it. Richer placement experience is required for LAMS placement under EUS-guidance. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Endoscopic resection for the treatment of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors: a retrospective study from a large tertiary hospital in China
ConclusionER is an appropriate alternative method for the treatment of gastric GISTs, with an en bloc resection rate of 88.85% and a complication rate of 0.93%. No recurrence was noted during follow-up, even for GISTs with piecemeal resection. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Clinical practice guideline on the use of single-operator cholangioscopy in the diagnosis of indeterminate biliary stricture and the treatment of difficult biliary stones
ConclusionFor adult patients with indeterminate biliary strictures, the panel made a conditional recommendation for SOC with stricture pattern characterization over ERCP with brushing and/or biopsy for sensitivity, specificity, and procedure success rate outcomes. For the adult patients with difficult biliary stones the panel made conditional recommendation for SOC over ERCP with large-balloon dilation of papilla. Additional research is required on economic estimations of SOC and knowledge translation evaluations to implement SOC intervention in local contexts. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Impact of dehydration on laparoscopic performance: a prospective, open-label, randomized cross-over trial
ConclusionProlonged periods of dehydration do not appear to have a substantial effect on the fundamental tissue handling skills in terms of force exertion among surgical novices. Nevertheless, the observed impact on speed and precision warrants attention. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Telemedicine network latency management system in 5G telesurgery: a feasibility and effectiveness study
ConclusionThe Telemedicine Network Latency Management System was simple and easy to operate, and it was feasible and effective to use it to monitor network latency in telesurgery. The system had an intuitive and concise interface, and its alarm function increased the safety of telesurgery. The system's own multidimensional working ability and information storage capacity will be more suitable for telemedicine work. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Intraoperative liver deformation and organ motion caused by ventilation, laparotomy, and pneumoperitoneum in a porcine model for image-guided liver surgery
ConclusionsVentilation and application of pneumoperitoneum caused significant changes in liver position. Liver motion was reduced but clearly measurable during pneumoperitoneum. Intraoperative guidance/navigation systems should therefore account for ventilation and intraoperative changes of liver position and peripheral deformation. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

An international Delphi consensus for surgical quality assessment of lymphadenectomy and anastomosis in minimally invasive total gastrectomy for gastric cancer
ConclusionsThe Delphi consensus defined 41 steps as crucial for performing a high-quality MITG for oncological indications based on the standards of an international panel. The results of this consensus provide a platform for creating and validating surgical quality assessment tools designed to improve clinical outcomes and standardize surgical quality in MITG.
