Is weight trajectory a better marker of wound complication risk than BMI in hernia patients with obesity?
ConclusionWeight loss may be a better indicator of a patient ’s risk for wound morbidity following TAR than BMI alone, as weight loss of at least 3% resulted in fewer SSIs despite similar BMIs at time of surgery. Further research into optimal timing and amount of weight loss, as well as effects on long-term outcomes, is needed to confirm these findings.Graphical abstract (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Risk factors for post-polypectomy bleeding in patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing colonoscopic polypectomy
ConclusionsColonoscopic polypectomy should be performed with caution in patients with ESRD, especially in those with the following risk factors: advanced age (>  70 years), polyp size >  7 mm, and EMR as the polypectomy method. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

The short- and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic D2 lymphadenectomy plus complete mesogastrium excision for lymph node-negative gastric cancer
ConclusionLaparoscopic D2  + CME for T1-3N0M0 GC is safe and feasible. Furthermore, it not only reduces the local recurrence rate but also improves the 5-year DFS in cases of T1b-3N0M0 GC.Graphical abstract (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

A generic scope actuation system for flexible endoscopes
ConclusionsThe proposed scope actuation system enhances the maneuverability of flexible endoscopes. It also lays the groundwork for future development of modular and generic scope assistant systems that can be used in both laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Robotic versus open pancreatoduodenectomy in patients with pancreatic duct adenocarcinoma after the learning curve: a propensity score-matched analysis
ConclusionAfter the learning curve, RPD had improved oncologic outcomes in PDAC patients compared to OPD. Future prospective randomized clinical trials will be required to validate these findings. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Patient-reported oral function and psychological well-being outcomes of papillary thyroid cancer patients (PTC) after surgery: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionGasless TOETVA had a temporary impact on oral function, but it did not alleviate the state of anxiety. Furthermore, we observed a significant increase in trait-anxiety scores among PTC patients who underwent gasless-TOETVA after 1 year. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Prognosis and safety of laparoscopic hepatectomy for BCLC stage 0/A hepatocellular carcinoma with clinically significant portal hypertension: a multicenter, propensity score-matched study
ConclusionsCSPH has a negative impact on the prognosis of BCLC stage 0/A HCC patients after laparoscopic hepatectomy. Laparoscopic hepatectomy is still recommended for treatment, but careful patient selection is essential. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

ReSleeve or revisional one anastomosis gastric bypass for failed primary sleeve gastrectomy with dilated gastric tube: a retrospective study
ConclusionBoth procedures (RLOAGB and ReLSG) were relatively safe and effective in terms of WL. RLOAGB led to higher WL compared to ReLSG in all types of patients despite higher Caloric intake. IWL patients had more WL compared to WR patients. WL was not related to GT dilation type. Large-scale longer-FU studies are still needed.Trial registrationPACTR202310644487566 (retrospectively registered). (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

High-resolution 3-dimensional tomography may be a useful tool for understanding the anatomy of hiatal hernias and surgical planning of patients eligible for laparoscopic or robotic antireflux surgery
ConclusionsThe anatomy of HH and the hiatus can be well defined by 3D CT. The EGJ-hiatus distance may be equally measured by 3D CT or upper digestive endoscopy. DeMeester score did not correlate with any anatomical parameter. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Long-term quality of life is better after laparoscopic compared to open pancreatoduodenectomy
ConclusionThis monocentric study found improved long-term QoL in patients undergoing LPD, as compared to OPD, for benign and premalignant diseases. These results could be considered when choosing the surgical approach in these patients. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)
