Intraoperative artificial intelligence system identifying liver vessels in laparoscopic liver resection: a retrospective experimental study
ConclusionWe successfully developed deep-learning models that recognize liver vessels in LLR with high accuracy and sufficient processing speed. These findings suggest the potential of a new real-time automated navigation system for LLR. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Prospective evaluation of transoral outlet reduction (TORe) after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) failure
ConclusionsAfter RYGBP failure linked to the dilatation of the gastro-jejunal anastomosis, TORe procedure with nutritional management results in significantly higher %EWL at 12  months compared to patients with nutritional management alone. As surgery, this minimally invasive endoscopic procedure can be associated with severe adverse events. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Active gas aspiration in reducing pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionThe study found that active gas aspiration can be effective in reducing postoperative shoulder pain and analgesic requirements after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which has important implications for patient care and healthcare costs. Importantly, this intervention does not impose any additional time or financial burden. However, further research is needed to evaluate its impact on other laparoscopic procedures. Better stoma care using the Stoma  App: does it help? A first randomized double-blind clinical trial on the effect of mobile healthcare on quality of life in stoma patients
ConclusionThe Stoma App improves the quality of life of stoma patients. Peer support and personalized guidance are of significant importance in building self-efficacy. It is to be recommended to implement Stoma app —freely available software qualifying as a medical device—in standard stoma care pathways for the benefits of both patients and healthcare providers. Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy: a SICE (Societ à Italiana di Chirurgia Endoscopica e Nuove tecnologie) network prospective study on the approach to right colon lymphadenectomy in Italy: is there a standard?—CoDIG 2 (ColonDx Italian Group)
ConclusionsThis analysis shows how lymphadenectomy is performed in Italy to achieve oncological outcomes in RH, although the technique to achieve a higher lymph node count has not yet been standardized.Trial registration (ClinicalTrials.gov) ID: NCT05943951. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Effects of endoluminal vacuum sponge therapy on the perfusion of gastric conduit in a porcine model for esophagectomy
ConclusionsEndoVAC therapy with a pressure of  − 125 mmHg significantly increased tissue perfusion of ischemic gastric conduit. With better understanding of underlying physiology the optimal use of EndoVAC therapy can be determined including a possible preemptive use for gastric conduits with impaired arterial perfusion or venous congestion.Graphical abstract (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Perforated peptic ulcer disease in transferred patients is associated with significant increase in length of stay
ConclusionPatients transferred for definitive care of PPUD in a population otherwise notable for high mortality and high readmission rates: their average length of stay compared to non-transfer patients was over twice the length, which was statistically significant. Transferred patients also had higher rates of ICU care requirement although this was not statistically significant. Further inquiry to identify modifiable variables to facilitate the care of transferred patients is warranted, especially in the context of improving quality metrics known to enhance patient outcomes, satisfaction, and value.Graphical abstract (Sou...

Perioperative outcomes for single-port robotic versus single-incision laparoscopic surgery: a comparative analysis in colorectal cancer surgery
ConclusionsSingle-port robotics provided high quality oncologic surgery, adding the technical benefits of robotics to clinical and cosmetic benefits of single-port surgery. There were comparable operative time, complication rates, and oncologic outcomes in CRC cases, with shorter hospital stays with SP robotics. This early data is encouraging for expansion SP robotic technology. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Epidural versus general anesthesia for laparo-endoscopic single-site cholecystectomy: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsPatients undergoing LESS cholecystectomy with general vs. epidural anesthesia had similar demographics, LOS, and pain scores. Patients that received epidural anesthesia reported less pain and incurred less cost. Utilization of epidural anesthesia in lieu of general anesthesia for LESS cholecystectomy is safe, reduces pain, and offers potential cost savings. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Challenge in optimizing robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy including nerve plexus hanging maneuver: a Japanese single center experience of 76 cases
ConclusionOperation time and major complications decreased along the learning curve from the introduction of RPD. In addition, optimization of the procedure, including hanging maneuver of the retropancreatic tissue seemed to be effective in reducing operation time and educating new RPD surgeons.
