Associations between marital status and weight loss trajectories entering into early adulthood: a Teen-LABS study
CONCLUSIONS: NM participants with NM caregivers had less favorable long-term BMI. Role of the exercise professional in metabolic and bariatric surgery
CONCLUSIONS: The expert group reached a consensus on 7 major classifications of job tasks for the exercise professional. It is important for governing medical associations across the world to formally recognize experienced exercise professionals as playing pivotal roles in continuing, multidisciplinary care for MBS patients. These findings also provide evidence-based information in the effort to solidify these positions within the greater context of healthcare.PMID:38238107 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.09.026 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Patient and operative factors influence delayed discharge following bariatric surgery in an enhanced recovery setting
CONCLUSIONS: Patient length of stay is independent of BMI, operation, and comorbidities and these factors do not need special consideration in ERAS pathways. Patients undergoing revisional procedures can be managed in the same way as those having primary procedures, with a routine POD 0/1 discharge. However, the impact of individual patient factors, and their interaction, is complex and cannot predict overstay.PMID:38218689 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.11.005 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Routine extended (30 days) chemoprophylaxis for patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy may reduce Portomesenteric vein thrombosis rates
CONCLUSIONS: Routine extended (30 day) chemoprophylaxis for all SG may reduce PMVT rate but lead to a higher bleeding rate post-operatively. The vast majority of the increased bleeds are delayed and can be managed non-operatively.PMID:38195313 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.12.006 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)
