Benefits of metabolic surgery on macrovascular outcomes in adult patients with type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Surg Obes Relat Dis. 2023 Sep 7:S1550-7289(23)00666-4. doi: 10.1016/j.soard.2023.08.016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTType 2 diabetes (T2D) is a chronic metabolic disorder that affects millions of individuals associated with an increased risk of mortality and macrovascular complications. We aimed to synthesize the benefit of metabolic surgery (MS) on macrovascular outcomes in adult patients with T2D.We included both cohort studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated MS added to medical therapy compared with medical therapy alone in the treatment of adult patients with T2D. Studies must have evaluated th...

Preconception maternal gastric bypass surgery and the impact on fetal growth parameters
CONCLUSIONS: PGB is associated with overall reduced fetal growth trajectories and a 2-fold increased risk of SGA, without significant adverse consequences for maternal pregnancy outcome. We recommend close monitoring of fetal growth after pGB.PMID:37805294 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.08.015 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)
