Preoperative predictors of type 2 diabetes remission after bilio-pancreatic diversion with duodenal switch
CONCLUSIONS: Better chances for T2D remission following BPD-DS are associated with a shorter duration or T2D before surgery. Duration of T2D alone offers an excellent predictive ability and is a convenient alternative to diabetes remission scores to estimate chances of long-term diabetes remission after BPD-DS.PMID:38172004 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.11.006 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Associations of adherence to physical activity and dietary recommendations with weight recurrence 1-5 years after metabolic and bariatric surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Adherence to recommendations was poor. Dietary adherence decreased from 1 to 5 years post-surgery, whereas PA adherence remained stable. PA adherence was positively associated with adherence to some dietary recommendations at 1 year but not at 5 years. Neither behavioral adherences were associated with weight recurrence. Additional research is needed to understand how to improve adherence and its relationship with other health outcomes after MBS.PMID:38160134 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.11.014 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Changes in renal blood flow after surgically induced weight loss: can bariatric surgery halt the progression of chronic kidney disease?
CONCLUSION(S): According to our findings, patients with CKD stages 1-3 present improvement of their kidney function after BaS. This amelioration could be secondary to improvement of the RBF, an unstudied reversible mechanism of kidney injury in the bariatric population.PMID:38158311 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.11.013 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

The role of dietitian follow-ups on nutritional outcomes post-bariatric surgery
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that three or more RD visits during the first 12 months after bariatric surgery are associated with improved outcomes, including significant percent total body weight loss and lower rates of micronutrient deficiencies.PMID:38158312 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.10.017 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy conversion to gastric bypass: conversion rate over time, predictors of conversion, and weight loss outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Conversion of LSG to RYGB increased with time to 12.6% conversion rate at 7-years. Patients with GERD prior to LSG had a nonsignificant trend toward conversion, while younger patients and females had significantly higher rates of conversion. There may be additional weight loss benefit for patients converted to RYGB.PMID:38155076 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.11.018 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Prognostic factors in resolution of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease post bariatric surgery in adolescents
CONCLUSIONS: Bariatric surgery resulted in significant and sustained improvement in ALT levels over 2 years. Although associated with weight loss, this decline was also associated with improved metabolic indices, independent of weight loss.PMID:38155077 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.11.004 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)
