Periodontal implications of fixed retainers
Orthodontic retention has evolved into an essential element of orthodontic treatment, applicable regardless of a patient's age, specific malocclusion, or the type of mechanotherapy employed. It is common practice in many regions to utilize fixed retention in a majority of patients. Existing research suggests that the presence of fixed retainers has a relatively minimal impact on periodontal tissues. However, given the often prolonged, and sometimes lifelong, retention periods, it is essential to acknowledge specific limitations within the scientific literature. (Source: Seminars in Orthodontics)

Exploring the pros and cons of social media in orthodontics: A critical analysis of the perspectives of patients and professionals.
Internet usage is massive, with 66% of the world's population accessing it daily, reaching up to 90% in developed countries and 57% in developing countries1. Social media (SoMe) has a considerable impact on our daily lives, influencing our behaviour and decisions and sometimes crossing boundaries of privacy. On average, people spend roughly 150 minutes daily on social media, with the European region averaging 75 minutes and the South American region at 205 minutes2. The dental and orthodontic community, including professionals and patients, has been dramatically influenced by social media. (Source: Seminars in Orthodontics)

Podcasts in orthodontics
Podcasts are one of the most recent innovations in media to enter orthodontics. The sector is worth an estimate 18 billion dollars and has a compound annual growth of 27%. The popularity of on-demand audio and video podcasts has been attributed to ease of production and publishing, free access, the ability to listen whilst engaged with other activities, industry investment, community engagement, mobile data availability, and smartphone popularity. Podcasts however have the limitation of no formal peer review process, potential poor-quality production, and have possibility to mislead the audience. (Source: Seminars in Orthodontics)

Analyzing Longitudinal Growth Data in Orthodontics
Longitudinal growth data with repeated measurements of distances and angles on radiographs are usually collected to study skeletal and dental changes throughout childhood and adolescence. The analysis of longitudinal data usually requires sophisticated statistical methods and modeling techniques because repeated measurements made on the same subject violate the assumption of independence underlying classical statistical tests. Advanced methods, such as multilevel modeling, must be used to account for the correlations between repeated measurements. (Source: Seminars in Orthodontics)

Clear aligner treatment among patients with compromised periodontal tissue
The aesthetic advances associated with clear aligner therapy (CAT) encourage the adult population, often affected by periodontal disease (PD), to seek orthodontic treatment. The literature states that it is possible to conduct orthodontic treatment in patients with compromised periodontal tissue through fixed appliances (FA) if the inflammation is controlled. It is now necessary to elucidate the role of CAT in this context. This narrative review aims to discuss the impact of orthodontic treatment with CAT in patients with healthy and compromised periodontal tissue. (Source: Seminars in Orthodontics)

Orthodontic Treatment, Craniofacial Morphology and Periodontal Phenotype: A Narrative Review
This narrative review synthesizes the available evidence that assesses the potential link between orthodontic treatment and gingival/periodontal health. It is believed that excessive mandibular incisor proclination associated with thin labial bone and gingival phenotype is a significant risk factor for developing gingival recession. This review will focus on available gingival phenotypes assessment methods and the portrayed association between craniofacial morphology and periodontal characteristics. Microbiota changes in the periodontium in response to orthodontic forces
Nowadays, there is a growing demand for orthodontic treatment in both adolescents and adults, with the main purpose of improving facial aesthetics. However, orthodontic treatment is not free of risks to the patient since it promotes the accumulation of plaque and can therefore have a negative impact on both dental hard tissues and the periodontium. For these reasons, quantitative and qualitative changes in oral microbiota in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment have been a major topic in the recent literature, which reports an increase in periodontal pathogens during orthodontic treatment. Evidence-based rationale for the management of mucogingival deformities before or after orthodontic treatment
This review aims to explore key aspects related to the treatment of gingival recession defects (GRD) and sites lacking keratinized gingiva in orthodontic patients. It focuses on five crucial core aspects: 1) risk assessment for GRD development; 2) diagnosis, characteristics, and the dilemma surrounding GRD treatment necessity; 3) the evolution of root coverage procedures and the significance of modifying soft tissue phenotype for gingival margin stability; 4) the development and progression of gingival recessions in orthodontic patients; and 5) the staging of orthodontic and periodontal therapies; specifically, the conside...
