Innovations in subperiosteal dental implants: Ranc-implants. A case report
Conclusiones: El tratamiento resectivo presenta las menores tasas de recurrencia, aunque se considera que el QO puede ser abordado de una manera más conservadora dada su naturaleza benigna.ABSTRACT Introduction: The odontogenic keratocystic (OK) is considered nowadays as a benign odontogenic tumor. Nevertheless, it has an aggressive nature due mainly to its local expansive potential and its high recurrence rate. Currently, there are different therapeutic approaches that are directly related to the recurrence rates of this type of tumor. Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the recurrence rates of the ...

Postoperative skeletal stability in conventional bimaxillary orthognathic surgery vs rotation of the maxillomandibular complex
Conclusiones: La cirugía ortognática con rotación del complejo maxilomandibular, tanto en sentido horario como antihorario, es un procedimiento estable cuando se utiliza fijación interna rígida, cuando se está en presencia de articulacion temporomandibular (ATM) sanas y cuando la rotación se lleva a cabo en un punto a través del cóndilo mandibular.ABSTRACT Introduction: Postoperative skeletal stability in orthognathic surgery has been evaluated over time, several authors have reported a decrease of it in movements of the jaws occasionally used in cases of alteration of the maxillo-mandibular complex. The aim o...

Comment on «Temporomandibular joint dysfunction in patients with rheumatoid arthritis»
ABSTRACT Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory response of the soft tissue surrounding osteointegrated implants. Squamous cell carcinoma can be sometimes confused clinically with peri-implantitis, and there have been various cases published of squamous cell carcinoma development in areas surrounding dental implants. Between 2008 and 2017, 6 cases of SCC surrounding implants were reported. 66.6% had a previous history of OSCC and association with risk factors (tobacco or alcohol consumption) was present in three patients. A literature search retrieved 54 cases (25 articles) published between 1996 and 2017. 42.6% of the patien...

Evaluation of efficacy of peri-operative administration of hydrocortisone and dexamethasone in prevention of post-operative complications in oral and maxillofacial surgeries
Conclusion: Surgeries done in and around the oral cavity are mostly prone to contamination as presence of saliva, bacteria, contaminants from stomach flora through acid reflux and post-operative events like vomiting, pollute the surgical site. A single intra-operative dose of hydrocortisone followed by post-operative tapered administration of dexamethasone helps in combating almost all of the post-operative complications after major oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures and hence hastens healing of surgical site.RESUMEN Objetivo: Evaluar el papel de la administraci ón intraoperatoria de hidrocortisona, y postoperato...

Influence of age on the findings and outcome of arthroscopic treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction. A study based on 162 cases
The aim of this study was to analyse whether the findings...

Temporal artery biopsy. A 25-year experience
Conclusion: Temporal artery biopsy is still the gold standard diagnostic test. The variables with the highest predictive value are the increase in ESR levels, and clinical symptoms (visual disturbances and new-onset headache). The time between diagnostic suspicion and biopsy is crucial, in order to confirm the diagnosis and, initiate, adjust or suspend corticosteroid treatment, and prevent irreversible complications.
