The immediate effect of alternate rapid maxillary expansions and constrictions on the alveolus: a retrospective cone beam computed tomography study
ConclusionsA 7-week protocol of Alt-RAMEC with double-hinged expander for maxillary protraction might reduce the buccal alveolar bone thickness of the expander ’s anchor teeth, although the reduction is within the scope of initial alveolar thickness of the expander’s anchor teeth. The inflection point: a torque reference for lingual bracket positioning on the palatal surface curvature of the maxillary central incisor
ConclusionsInflection point can be used as a reference for bracket positioning on PSC. Cervically oriented shifts in vertical bracket position cause crown labial/root palatal movement cervical to inflection point and crown palatal/root labial movement incisal to it. A scientific mathematical justification for customized bracket torque prescriptions on PSC of maxillary central incisor was also provided. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

The difference of stress distribution of maxillary expansion using rapid maxillary expander (RME) and maxillary skeletal expander (MSE) —a finite element analysis
ConclusionsThere were significant differences of stress distribution of maxillary expansion measured in the ROIs in the craniomaxillary 3D model using RME and MSE. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Examination of craniofacial morphology in Japanese patients with congenitally missing teeth: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionsThe present study suggested that skeletal patterns differ along with the number of congenitally missing teeth and that, in oligodontia patients, skeletal patterns differ before and after growth peak. It is important to consider the skeletal characteristics of tooth agenesis patients when designing a treatment plan. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Clinical effectiveness of Invisalign ® orthodontic treatment: a systematic review
ConclusionsAlthough this review included a considerable number of studies, no clear clinical recommendations can be made, based on solid scientific evidence, apart from non-extraction treatment of mild to moderate malocclusions in non-growing patients. Results should be interpreted with caution due to the high heterogeneity. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Role of anatomical sites and correlated risk factors on the survival of orthodontic miniscrew implants: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsOrthodontic miniscrew implants provide acceptable success rates that vary among the explored insertion sites. Very low to low quality of evidence suggests that miniscrews inserted in midpalatal locations have a failure rate of 1.3% and those inserted in the zygomatic buttress have a failure rate of 16.4%. Moderate quality of evidence indicates that root contact significantly contributes to the failure of interradicular miniscrews placed between the first molars and second premolars. Results should be interpreted with caution due to methodological drawbacks in some of the included studies. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Long-term antimicrobial assessment of orthodontic brackets coated with nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide against Streptococcus mutans
ConclusionN-doped TiO2 coated orthodontic brackets showed strong antimicrobial property againstS. mutans over a period of 90  days, which is effective in preventing enamel decalcification during orthodontic therapy. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Three-dimensional analysis of dental arch forms in Italian population
ConclusionsBasing on the anatomical arches differences found between sexes concerning Italian patients, it is suggested to have regard to each patient pre-treatment arch form, width, and depth during orthodontic treatment according to gender. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Class II subdivision correction with clear aligners using intermaxilary elastics
ConclusionCombining aligners with appropriate auxiliaries is an efficacious means of resolving orthodontic issues such as class II, dental crossbite, and crowding in a time-frame comparable to that of conventional fixed orthodontics. Furthermore, this system is associated with optimal oral hygiene and excellent esthetics. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)
