Thickness of orthodontic clear aligners after thermoforming and after 10  days of intraoral exposure: a prospective clinical study
ConclusionConsidering the thickness changes, the thermoforming process is reliable both with active and passive aligner configurations. Also, the CA examined show good thickness stability after physiological intraoral ageing in a population of healthy adults. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Surgical-orthodontic approach for facial rejuvenation based on a reverse facelift
ConclusionsThe facial mask ages three dimensionally. MMA should be offered to patients who have insufficient skeletal projection and are considering improving their facial appearance beyond just correcting a malocclusion problem. The reverse facelift provides more soft-tissue support, resulting in mid- and lower-face rejuvenation. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Paediatricians ’ awareness on orthodontic problems and related conditions—a national survey
ConclusionsThe results of this study indicate that there was variability regarding orthodontic knowledge among paediatricians. Although the majority were aware of the importance of examination of the oral cavity, they did not have the appropriate knowledge to perform a full and systematic screening for orthodontic problems. The probability of referral was different for the various orthodontic anomalies. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

What effect does functional appliance treatment have on the temporomandibular joint? A systematic review with meta-analysis
ConclusionsCurrently existing evidence from controlled clinical studies on humans indicates that functional appliance treatment is associated with positional and skeletal alterations of the temporomandibular joint in the short term compared to untreated controls. However, the clinical relevance of these changes remains unclear, while the quality of existing evidence is low due to methodological issues of existing studies.Review registrationPROSPERO,CRD42018109271 (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Does audiovisual information affect anxiety and perceived pain levels in miniscrew application? — a within-person randomized controlled trial
ConclusionUsing an audiovisual method to inform patients about miniscrew placement increased anxiety levels but did not affect pain perception. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Survival of maxillary and mandibular bonded retainers 10 to 15  years after orthodontic treatment: a retrospective observational study
AbstractBackgroundThe long-term evidence regarding failures of fixed retainers is limited and the aim of this cohort study was to assess the long-term risk of failure of one type of maxillary and two types of mandibular fixed lingual retainers.Trial designRetrospective cohort study.MethodsEighty-eight patients in retention 10 –15 years after orthodontic treatment were included. The type of failure; number of failures per tooth, per patient, and retainer; and adverse effects were assessed by (1) a questionnaire, (2) clinical examination, and (3) screening patients’ clinical charts. Descriptive statistics were calcula t...

Evaluating the treatment effectiveness and efficiency of Carriere Distalizer: a cephalometric and study model comparison of Class II appliances
ConclusionsThere is no clinically significant skeletal correction induced by Carriere Distalizer in growing patients. Carriere Distalizer can be applied to treatment of mild to moderate Class II dental malocclusion over 6  months on average, although the total treatment time may be prolonged due to various side effects. Overall, the Carriere Distalizer appears to be no more effective or efficient than alternatives in the treatment of Class II malocclusion. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)

Comparative evaluation of Icon ® resin infiltration and Clinpro™ XT varnish on colour and fluorescence changes of white spot lesions: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsClinpro ™ XT varnish showed significantly better improvement than Icon® resin infiltration in restoring the colour and lightness of the WSLs at 3 and 6 months. The fluorescence loss significantly recovered with both intervention methods between immediate application and at 6 months. However, Clinpro™ XT varnish-treated WSLs showed a statistically significant difference compared to the adjacent sound enamel at 6 months. (Source: Progress in Orthodontics)
