Residential extremely low frequency magnetic fields and skin cancer
Conclusions
The results of this study suggested an association between childhood ELF MF exposure and adult melanoma. This is in agreement with previous findings suggesting that the carcinogenic effects of ELF MFs may be associated particularly with childhood exposure. Farming, pesticide exposure and respiratory health: a cross-sectional study in Thailand
Conclusions
Chronic airflow obstruction is uncommon among villagers of an agricultural province in Nan, Thailand. Farming and pesticide use are unlikely to be major causes of respiratory problems there. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)

Technology-induced job loss risk, disability and all-cause mortality in Norway
Conclusions
Individuals in occupations characterised by high routine intensity are less likely to remain employed in the long term, and have higher rates of disability and mortality. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)

End-stage renal disease and metalworking fluid exposure
Conclusions
Exposure to straight and soluble MWF may be related to ESRD classification, though this relationship should be further examined. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)

Maternal occupation as a nail technician or hairdresser during pregnancy and birth defects, National Birth Defects Prevention Study, 1997-2011
Conclusions
Small samples resulted in wide CIs. Still, results suggest associations between maternal nail technician work during pregnancy and CHDs and between hairdressing work and oral clefts. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)

Associations between workplace characteristics and 'outness in LGBTI workers in Austria
Conclusions
Instating antidiscrimination protections might facilitate ‘outness’ of LGBTI workers and lead to a better promotion of diversity in the workplace. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)

Under-reporting of non-fatal occupational injuries among precarious and non-precarious workers in Sweden
Conclusions
This is the first register-based study to empirically demonstrate in Sweden that under-reporting of OIs is 50% higher among precariously employed workers. OIs under-reporting may represent unrecognised injuries that especially burden precariously employed workers as financial, health and social consequences shift from the employer to the employee. Perspective on new evidence showing injury under-reporting among precarious workers
Surveillance data are essential to identify and target prevention for all public health activity, including occupational safety and health. Accurate and timely surveillance data are needed to identify new hazards, monitor prevention activity, plan interventions and to evaluate the efficacy of these interventions. All occupational health specialists need to understand the limitations of the surveillance data available to them in order to make the best use of the data in their work. The inadequacies of the surveillance system for nonfatal work-related injuries and illnesses in the USA have been well documented.1 On the other...

Mesothelin promoter variants are associated with increased soluble mesothelin-related peptide levels in asbestos-exposed individuals
Conclusions
These data support the suggestion that SMRP performance is affected by individual (ie, genetic) variables and that MSLN expression is influenced by SNPs located within the promoter regulatory region. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)

Risk factors for persistence of lower respiratory symptoms among community members exposed to the 2001 World Trade Center terrorist attacks
Conclusions
Peripheral airway dysfunction and PTSD may contribute to LRS persistence. Assessment of peripheral airway function detected pulmonary damage not evident on spirometry. Mental and physical healthcare for survivors of complex environmental disasters should be coordinated carefully. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)

Work and health in Latin America: results from the working conditions surveys of Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Central America and Uruguay
Conclusions
This study provides, for the first time, a broad picture of work and health in different Latin American countries, based on the national WCSs available. This allows for a better understanding of occupational health and could serve as a baseline for future research and surveillance of work and health in the Region. However, greater efforts are needed to improve WCSs comparability. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)
