Technical innovations to optimize ultrasound imaging
Laryngorhinootologie. 2023 Nov 13. doi: 10.1055/a-2192-4152. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDue to the high incidence of thyroid disease, ultrasound examination of the neck has high priority in many nuclear medicine departments. A precise sonogram with high spatial resolution and image sharpness over the entire imaging area, combined with minimal artifacts, is the prerequisite for meeting the demand for high diagnostic accuracy in modern medicine. In the last 20-30 years, a number of significant technical innovations have been implemented, such as the development of the matrix array, electronic image focusing, realtime comp...

Standardized acquisition and documentation of cine loops on conventional thyroid ultrasound
Laryngorhinootologie. 2023 Nov 13. doi: 10.1055/a-2192-4039. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUltrasound is the basic imaging method for the assessment of the thyroid gland. Due to the high prevalence of structural disease, the examination procedure is used very frequently in Germany, in many cases in the context of follow-up. The assessment of thyroid pathologies and their dynamics is subjected to relevant inter- and intraobserver variability. Findings that were not identified during live ultrasound cannot be assessed retrospectively. Applying an SOP for the acquisition and documentation of standardized video sequences of ul...

Autoimmune pancreatitis versus pancreatic cancer
Radiologie (Heidelb). 2023 Nov 10. doi: 10.1007/s00117-023-01240-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCLINICAL ISSUE: Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is classified as a distinct form of pancreatitis according to the guidelines. It is characterized by imaging morphologic and histologic features and is associated with extrapancreatic manifestations in type 1 IgG 4-associated disease. Symptoms and findings almost always improve with administration of steroids. Differentiation from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is required, particularly in the presence of AIP with focal parenchymal involvement.STANDARD RADIOLOGIC PROCEDURES: If A...

Neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas
Radiologie (Heidelb). 2023 Nov 10. doi: 10.1007/s00117-023-01231-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCLINICAL/METHODOLOGICAL ISSUE: Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) of the pancreas fall into the group of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NEN). The assignment of imaging morphological criteria to this heterogeneous group of complex tumors is often difficult.STANDARD RADIOLOGICAL METHODS: Diagnostic ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography-CT (PET/CT) are available for the detection of pancreatic NET (also referred to as NEN) and for the diagnosis of sp...
