Evaluation of an Electronic Health Record Tool to Identify Echocardiograms That Do Not Change Clinical Care
The accessibility and affordability of transthoracic echocardiograms (TTEs) make them indispensable in the management of numerous illnesses, although these virtues also contribute to substantial TTE overuse.1-3 Despite numerous well-designed interventions consisting of education, audit/feedback, and decision support tools to curb TTE overuse, there still exists a need for novel, cost-effective strategies that can sustainably reduce overuse across health care systems.1,4,5 In this single health system study across 2 hospitals, we sought to design an electronic health record (EHR) tool that could accurately identify TTEs tha...

Response to “Minimal Detectable Change and Reproducibility of Echocardiographic Strain: Implications for Clinical Practice”
We thank Dr. Pressman for his interest in our paper “Deep Learning for Improved Precision and Reproducibility of Left Ventricular Strain in Echocardiography: A Test-Retest Study”1 and agree with his suggestion that similar methods should be used in future studies to determine the real reproducibility of global longitudinal strain (GLS). A test-re test study design including repeated acquisitions, multiple observers, and statistical methods estimating the minimal detectable change (MDC) is essential for obtaining the most accurate knowledge of clinically relevant reproducibility. Echocardiography Assessment of Left Ventricular Function in Extremely Preterm Infants, Born at Less Than 28  Weeks’ Gestation, With Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and Systemic Hypertension
The survival of smaller and more immature premature infants has been associated with lifelong cardiorespiratory comorbidities. Infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) undergo routine screening echocardiography to evaluate for development of chronic pulmonary hypertension, a late manifestation of pulmonary vascular disease.
