High femoral anteversion in osteoarthritic knees, particularly for severe valgus deformity
ConclusionHigh FA is prevalent, particularly in severe valgus knees, and FA is significantly related to the femoral trochlear morphology in OA knees. With the aim of improving the patellofemoral prognosis and complications, high FA should be considered during total knee arthroplasty. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Ulna hook plate osteosynthesis for ulna head fracture associated with distal  radius fracture
ConclusionsUlna hook plate fixation gives good clinical results and a high rate of fracture union, but complications are common. Implant irritation is a frequent complication, especially in young patients, and often requires implant removal.Level of evidence: IV (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

The application of custom-made 3D-printed titanium augments designed through surgical simulation for severe bone defects in complex revision total hip arthroplasty
ConclusionSurgical simulations help to design custom-made augments accurately and improve surgical plans. Acetabular components supported with custom-made 3D-printed augments is a useful method to bridge severe bone deficiencies. In this study, both the radiologic results and clinical outcomes were favorable.Level of evidenceLevel 4. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR) is a valuable test for diagnosing periprosthetic joint infection: a single-center retrospective study
ConclusionCRP/AGR was a valuable test for diagnosing PJI, but other novel biomarkers had only limited diagnostic value.Level of EvidenceLevel III (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Functional outcome after digit replantation versus amputation
ConclusionComparable functional results and sensory recovery but significantly less pain at rest and under strain can be expected after digit replantation when compared to digit amputation.Level of evidenceIV. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Conversion of failed internal fixation in proximal femur fractures using calcar-guided short-stem total hip arthroplasty
ConclusionGiven the low rate of complications and 100% survival, our findings indicate that short stems for conversion THA due to failed internal fixation may be considered an option in a properly selected patient population. However, it should not be considered a standard procedure and should only be performed by experienced surgeons. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Which stem in total hip arthroplasty for developmental hip dysplasia? A comparative study using  a 3D CT-based software for pre-operative surgical planning
ConclusionsStem choice in developmental hip dysplasia is mainly driven by appropriate combined anteversion, which is dependent on the coronal and axial femoral morphologies. As a rule of thumb, tapered stems are adequate when femoral anteversion is  <  25°; conical stems should be adopted for higher anteversions.Level of evidenceIV. Controversies in ACL revision surgery: Italian expert group consensus and state of the art
ConclusionsThe decision-making process in revision ACL reconstruction starts with a standardized imaging protocol (weight-bearing radiographs, CT scan, and MRI). One-stage surgery is indicated in almost all cases (exceptions are severe tunnel enlargement and infection), while the choice of graft depends on the previously used graft and the dimensions of the tunnels, with better clinical outcomes obtained for autografts. Additional procedures such as lateral extra-articular tenodesis in high-grade pivot-shift knees, biplanar HTO in the case of severe coronal malalignment, and meniscal suture improve the clinical outcome and...

Role of pelvic packing in the first attention given to hemodynamically unstable pelvic fracture patients: a meta-analysis
ConclusionsThis meta-analysis indicates that a treatment protocol including PP could reduce mortality and transfusion requirement before intervention in pelvic fracture patients with hemodynamic instability vs. angiography and embolization. This latter technique could be used as a feasible and complementary technique afterwards.Level of evidence3. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Subtrochanteric femoral fractures and intramedullary nailing complications: a comparison of two implants
ConclusionWe reported a 22.3% re-operation rate in our cohort of subtrochanteric fractures treated with a long IM nail. We have identified six risk factors associated with re-operation: age  <  75 years old, pre-injury femoral neck shaft angle, choice of nail, varus reduction angle, fracture-related infection and non-union. The addition of a proximal anti-rotation screw in the Affixus nail did not confer any benefit. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)
