Comparison of hamstring and quadriceps tendon autografts in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with gait analysis and surface electromyography
ConclusionsOur results suggest that harvesting of HS grafts for primary ACL reconstruction will not lead to a medial collapse and consequently impaired medial stabilisation of the knee when compared with QT grafts.Level of evidenceIV. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Low rate of early periprosthetic fractures in cementless short-stem total hip arthroplasty using a minimally invasive anterolateral approach
ConclusionCementless short-stem THA using the MIS anterolateral approach is a procedure with a low number of PFFs within 90  days from index surgery. Fracture rates are comparable to other MIS approaches, and comparable femoral short stems are used. Age, sex, and BMI were not identified as risk factors of PFF, while risk for PFF increased with ASA Score.Level of EvidenceLevel IV (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

The association between intracompartmental pressure and skeletal muscle recovery after tibial diaphyseal fractures: an ambispective cohort study
ConclusionsShort-term ICP elevation was associated with long-term skeletal muscle recovery following tibial diaphyseal fracture, especially for ICP data that integrated time factors.Level of evidenceLevel 3. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

The relationship between quadriceps fat pad syndrome and patellofemoral morphology: a case –control study

Total hip arthroplasty for dysplastic coxarthrosis using a cementless Wagner Cone stem
ConclusionsThis study confirms the theoretical advantages that suggest the choice of the Wagner cone when technical difficulties during prosthetic surgery are expected owing to abnormal proximal femoral anatomy.Level of evidenceLevel IV, retrospective case study (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Early mortality in hip fracture patients admitted during first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Northern Italy: a multicentre study
ConclusionsHip fracture in COVID-19-positive patients accounted for 11% of the total. On average, the time to surgery was  >  48 h, which reflects the difficulty of maintaining normal workflow during a medical emergency such as the present pandemic and notwithstanding the suspension of non-urgent procedures. Hip fracture was associated with a higher 30-day mortality rate in COVID-19-positive patients than in COVID-19-n egative patients. This fact should be considered when communicating with patients and/or their family. Our data suggest no substantial difference in hip fracture management between patients with or w...

Nailing femoral shaft fracture with postless distraction technique: a new technique enabled by shape-conforming pad
ConclusionsOur results using the postless distraction technique show a sufficient distraction to allow reduction and internal fixation of the femoral fracture with a standard femoral nail.Level of evidence:IV (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Clinical and radiological outcomes of total hip arthroplasty in patients affected by Paget ’s disease: a combined registry and single-institution retrospective observational study
ConclusionTHA surgery in Paget ’s patients is a safe procedure, and implant survival is only partly affected by bone remodelling and choice of fixation. The post-operative functional outcome is largely similar to that of other patients. Bleeding-related complications are the main complications; a careful pharmacological strateg y should be recommended to decrease the risk of transfusions and of HO development.Level of evidenceLevel III (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Leg length discrepancy, overgrowth, and associated risk factors after a pediatric tibial shaft fracture
ConclusionsPatients undergoing TEN showed greater LLD and overgrowth than those undergoing casting, with boys showing greater LLD and overgrowth than girls. Surgeons should consider the possibility of LLD and overgrowth after pediatric tibial shaft fractures, especially when performing TEN for boys.Level of evidenceLevel III (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Promising medium-term results of anterior approach with an anatomical short stem in primary hip arthroplasty
