Do risk factors differentiate DSM-5 and drive for thinness severity groups for anorexia nervosa?
ConclusionOverall, this study found little evidence for AN risk factors being related to the DSM-5 and DT severity ratings. However, given the novelty of this study, replication of the current results is warranted. (Source: Journal of Eating Disorders)

Development and preliminary validation of a novel eating disorder screening tool for vegetarians and vegans: the V-EDS
ConclusionsThis study provided strong initial support for the psychometric validity and theoretical assumptions of the novel V-EDS screening tool. The V-EDS has the potential to increase early intervention rates for vegetarians and vegans experiencing eating disorder symptoms, further supporting advocacy and treatment approaches for these expanding dietary groups. Psychometric properties of self-report measures of eating disorder cognitions: a systematic review
ConclusionsThe findings of the current systematic review provide guidance for future researchers to focus efforts on improving evidence for the validity, reliability and utility of self-report measures of ED cognitions. Overall, the present study has provided a detailed and systematic evaluation to support researchers and clinicians in future selection of measures of ED cognitions dependent on the specific aims of their research and treatment. Motives for using social networking sites: a uses & amp; gratifications perspective amongst people with eating disorder symptoms
AbstractStudies investigating motives for social networking sites (SNS) use amongst people with eating disorder (ED) symptoms are scarce. The uses and gratifications theory states that people actively select media content to gratify their individual needs and this may help to explain why individuals with eating disorder symptoms choose to expose themselves to specific media content and how they choose to respond. Some evidence exists that readiness to change may be a factor related to SNS use patterns in this population. The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential relationship between readiness to change ...

Patient experiences of a 10-weeks weight-neutral treatment program for clinical binge eating disorder in a higher weight population
ConclusionOur findings indicate that relational symmetry, by patients experienced as being met with recognition, compassionate acceptance, and mutual investigation of subjective experience, can contribute to reduction of weight stigma and shame, and the burdensome notion of inferiority experienced by the participants in everyday life, hence improving treatment outcomes.Trail registration The study was approved and registered by the Data Access Committee at Nord-Tr øndelag Hospital Trust August 8th, 2019, registration number 2019_2335. Glial cell changes in the corpus callosum in chronically-starved mice
AbstractAnorexia nervosa (AN) is characterized by emaciation, hyperactivity, and amenorrhea. Imaging studies in AN patients have revealed reductions in grey and white matter volume, which correlate with the severity of neuropsychological deficits. However, the cellular basis for the observed brain atrophy is poorly understood. Although distinct hypothalamic centers, including the arcuate nucleus (ARC) are critically involved in regulating feeding behavior, little is known about potential hypothalamic modifications in this disorder. Since glia e.g. astrocytes and microglia influence neuronal circuits, we investigated the gl...

Pharmacotherapy for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder in youth with avoidant restrictive food intake disorder: a case series of patients prescribed stimulant medication in a partial hospitalization program for eating disorders
ConclusionsThese findings support the use of pharmacotherapy, including continuing stimulant medication, when combined with behavior management strategies as a potentially effective treatment approach for ADHD in youth with ARFID in the PHP/IOP setting. Future studies using more rigorous methodology, longer follow-up times, and within other treatment settings are needed. (Source: Journal of Eating Disorders)

Emotional reactivity and prosocial behaviour in response to witnessing social exclusion in adolescents with eating disorders and healthy controls
ConclusionsCompared to healthy adolescents, adolescent patients with eating disorders demonstrated less prosocial compensatory behaviour towards a computerised victim of social exclusion. In addition, they reported flatter negative emotion in themselves in response to witnessing and compensating for exclusion, and in the excluded player following compensation. If these findings are replicated, interventions to target these difficulties might contribute to improvements in social functioning in this patient group. (Source: Journal of Eating Disorders)
