Adapting family-based treatment for adolescent anorexia nervosa delivered in the home: A novel approach for improving access to care and generalizability of skill acquisition
ConclusionsImplementing FBT in the home may present one promising and novel approach to enhance engagement and treatment outcomes for adolescents with restrictive eating disorders, particularly those who are underserved, but evaluation of efficacy/effectiveness is needed. Differences among feminist and non-feminist women on weight bias internalization, body image, and disordered eating
ConclusionsDespite the clear impacts of the intersection of weight status and gender, results from this study suggest that identifying as a feminist is not sufficient to combate weight stigma. Findings highlight the need for further research investigating weight bias internalization within eating disorder prevention efforts and interventions. (Source: Journal of Eating Disorders)

The global prevalence of screen-based disordered eating and associated risk factors among high school students: systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression
ConclusionThe estimated figure of 1 in 8 high school students with SBDE —unmoderated by gender and BMI—stands out as a problem in need of attention from public health officials, psychologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, parents, and educators. There is a great need for innovative, integrated policy and program development all along the spectrum of health promotio n and universal, selective, and indicated prevention. Further research is also needed to validate and refine this estimate by (a) conducting basic research on the accuracy of eating disorder screening measurements in samples ages 14 through 17; (b) examinin...

The efficacy of non-invasive brain stimulation in the treatment of children and adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa: study protocol of a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial
DiscussionWe expect that tDCS treatment to improve clinical outcome by reducing the symptoms of AN assessed as changes in Eating Disorder Risk composite  score of the Eating Disorder Inventory-3. We also expect that at baseline there will be differences between the right and left hemisphere in some electrophysiological measures and that such differences will be reduced after tDCS treatment. Finally, we expect a reduction of endogenous stress respon se and an improvement in BMI and nutritional status after tDCS treatment. This project would provide scientific foundation for new treatment perspectives in AN in developmental...

Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of treated and untreated adults with bulimia nervosa or binge-eating disorder recruited for a large-scale research study
ConclusionsHistorically overlooked and marginalized populations self-reported lower treatment access rates, while those who accessed treatment reported more severe eating disorder and comorbid mental health symptoms, which may have motivated them to seek treatment. Clinic-based recruitment samples may not represent individuals with milder symptoms or racial and ethnic diversity, and males. Community-based recruitment is crucial for improving the ability to apply research findings to broader populations and reducing disparities in medical research.Trial Registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04162574 (https://clinicaltrials.gov...

Inhibitory control towards angry stimuli in patients with binge eating disorder: a pilot study
ConclusionsThe current pilot study does not deliver evidence for decreased inhibitory control towards angry stimuli in patients with BED, as we detected a general and not disorder-related effect in all participants that might represent the conjunction of inhibitory control and anger. A direct mood induction technique might have led to different results. Further research in healthy and clinical groups is needed. (Source: Journal of Eating Disorders)

Psychometric properties of the Pride in Eating Pathology Scale in a Spanish population
ConclusionsThe PEP-S scale is an instrument with evidence of validity and reliability in the Spanish population. Diabetes distress and disordered eating behaviors in youth with type 1 diabetes: the mediating role of self-regulatory fatigue and the moderating role of resilience
ConclusionThe current study examined whether self-regulatory fatigue mediated the relationship between diabetes distress and DEBs and whether resilience moderated the connection between self-regulatory fatigue and DEBs. These findings add to the theoretical basis of how diabetes distress influences DEBs and help guide the incorporation of diabetes distress, self-regulatory fatigue, and resilience into DEBs reduction programs for youth with T1D. Anorexia nervosa and the COVID-19 pandemic among young people: a scoping review
ConclusionThe pandemic significantly impacted young people with restrictive eating disorders as seen by increased hospitalizations and requests for outpatient care. A primary driver of the changes in eating disorder symptomatology may be lockdowns and quarantines. Further research investigating how the series of lockdowns and re-openings impacted individuals with AN/AAN is warranted. (Source: Journal of Eating Disorders)

Oral health and individuals with a lived experience of an eating disorder: a qualitative study
ConclusionsThe need for oral health promotion while experiencing an eating disorder was evident, however, dentists can often be a costly option. Non-dental health professionals like dietitians working with clients with an eating disorder may be an acceptable alternative for closing this gap. (Source: Journal of Eating Disorders)

The association between deficiencies in paternal and maternal reflective functioning and anorexia nervosa symptomatology
ConclusionsThe present results provide strong empirical support for theoretical models that suggest that deficits in parental mentalizing may represent important correlates of the presence and severity of ED symptoms in AN. Furthermore, the results highlight the relevance of fathers' mentalizing ability in the context of AN. Finally, clinical and research implications are discussed. (Source: Journal of Eating Disorders)
