Analysis of Notch1 protein expression in methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorders
In this study, to investigate the association of NOTCH1 in the pathogenesis of MTX-LPD, we evaluated protein expression of Notch1 in nuclei immunohistochemically in MTX-LPD cases [histologically DLBCL-type (n = 24) and classical Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL)-type (n = 24)] and de novo lymphoma cases [DLBCL (n = 19) and CHL (n = 15)]. The results showed that among MTX-LPD cases, the expression of Notch1 protein was significantly higher in the DLBCL type than in the CHL type (P < 0.001). In addition, among DLBCL morphology cases, expression of Notch1 tended to be higher in MTX-LPD than in the de novo group; however this differen...

Clinico-pathological profile of patients with plasma cell neoplasms with special reference to bone marrow fibrosis and amyloid deposition
In conclusion, the incidence of fibrosis (4.3%) and amyloidosis (6.2%) associated with plasma cell neoplasms were much lower in our study as compared to published studies.PMID:38148011 | PMC:PMC10861367 | DOI:10.3960/jslrt.23029 (Source: Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hematopathology : JCEH)

Evidence for distinct mechanisms of immune suppression in EBV-positive and EBV-negative Hodgkin lymphoma
In this study, we aimed to investigate the prevalence of EBV among HL cases in Ethiopia and to assess the tissue cellular composition of EBV-related and EBV-unrelated cases. We constructed a tissue microarray (TMA) of 126 consecutive cases of classical HL (CHL) and nodular lymphocyte predominant HL (NLPHL) from a tertiary cancer centre, Tikur Anbessa Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and evaluated a panel of immunohistochemical markers. The quantification of immune cells was performed using HALO 2.3, a platform for image analysis from Indica Lab Inc. A total of 77/126 (61.1%) of HL cases expressed LMP1/EBER. Infiltration of...

Sutimlimab suppresses SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine-induced hemolytic crisis in a patient with cold agglutinin disease
This report suggests that appropriate sutimlimab administration can suppress SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination-induced CAD exacerbation, and that it could be a preventive strategy to minimize hemolytic attacks in susceptible populations.PMID:38148014 | PMC:PMC10861374 | DOI:10.3960/jslrt.23040 (Source: Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hematopathology : JCEH)

Methotrexate-induced subacute myelopathy: a serious but treatable complication
J Clin Exp Hematop. 2023;63(4):251-256. doi: 10.3960/jslrt.23041.ABSTRACTSubacute myelopathy is a rare but serious complication of methotrexate (MTX) that may cause paraplegia. Although its underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated, homocysteine is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of this adverse effect. Herein, we report the case of a 34-years old female patient with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma who developed progressive paraplegia accompanied by dysfunctional bladder and bowel movements after treatment with a modified CODOX-M/IVAC regimen, including high-dose intravenous MTX and intrathecal (IT-) MT...

Coincidence of de novo T-lymphoblastic lymphoma and cutaneous gamma/delta peripheral T-cell lymphoma
J Clin Exp Hematop. 2023;63(4):257-261. doi: 10.3960/jslrt.23042.ABSTRACTThe coincidence of acute T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma, NOS (T-ALL/LBL), and peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is unusual, and there have only been a few cases of their metachronous occurrence. In these cases, PTCLs emerged as recurrence after primary therapy for primary T-ALL, were the rare gamma/delta type, and uncommonly involved skin for T-ALL/LBL. We herein report the first case of de novo T-LBL that coincided with cutaneous gamma/delta PTCL before primary therapy. A 70-year-old man presented with systemic lymphadenopathy. Lymph node biopsy r...
