Effects of occupational exposure to metal fume PM2.5 on lung function and biomarkers among shipyard workers: a 3-year prospective cohort study
ConclusionOur study suggests that urinary α1-antitrypsin and ITIH4 could indicate early lung function decline in shipyard workers exposed to metal fume PM2.5, underscoring the need for better safety and health monitoring to reduce respiratory risks.Graphical abstract (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Relationship between night work and health-related quality of life: an analysis based on profiles and cumulative duration of exposure to night work among French workers in the CONSTANCES cohort
ConclusionsFormer night workers had poorer physical HRQoL in contrast to permanent and rotating night workers who had similar or even better HRQoL than day workers, suggesting the well-known healthy worker survivor effect. Consequently, both current and former night workers require regular and specific follow-up focused on the physical components of their health. Effects of chronotype on sleep, mood and cardiovascular circadian rhythms in rotating night shift medical workers
ConclusionChronotype is a factor affecting fatigue, sleepiness and cardiovascular circadian rhythms of rotating night shift workers. Chronotype should be taken into consideration for managing night-shift rotation to promote occupational health. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Agricultural exposures and DNA damage in PBMC of female farmers measured using the alkaline comet assay
ConclusionsWe report modified levels of DNA damage for those environmentally exposed to meadows, poultry and pig farming, underlining the need for a better knowledge of the potential health risks experienced by females in this setting. Prevalence and predictors of high-frequency hearing loss among mine workers in Gujarat, western India: a cross-sectional study on the need to implement a comprehensive hearing conservation program
ConclusionsIn our study setting, mine workers exhibited a high prevalence of HFHL, with exposure to workplace noise and duration being modifiable predictors. Because HFHL advances slowly and is generally undetected by the individual, we recommend periodic testing using audiometry to identify it among mine workers and, if possible, shifting them from mining activities to office. Furthermore, we advocate for the implementation of a comprehensive hearing conservation program to the extent possible. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Environmental exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances mixture and asthma in adolescents
ConclusionsOur study demonstrated no significant association between mixed exposure to PFAS and adolescent asthma, and more large cohort studies are needed to confirm this in the future. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Reducing sickness absence among public-sector healthcare employees: the difference-making roles of managerial and employee participation
ConclusionsThis study identified participation as a difference-maker in the implementation process. Participation from different stakeholders turned out to be important in different phases. When implementing organizational-level interventions, high participation from both strategic management and employees appears to be crucial in terms of the intervention ’s effect on sickness absence. The impact of short-term exposure to meteorological factors on the risk of death from hypertension and its major complications: a time series analysis based on Hefei, China
ConclusionOverall, we found that exposure to low DTR and high T mean environments increases the risk of death for hypertensive patients, while exposure to extremely high RH environments significantly reduces the risk of death for hypertensive patients. These findings contribute valuable insights for shaping targeted prevention and control strategies. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Occupational exposure to silica and risk of gastrointestinal cancers: a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies
ConclusionsWe discovered a link between occupational silica exposure and gastrointestinal malignancies, with cancers of the liver, stomach, and esophagus being the most prevalent. Colorectal and pancreatic cancer were not linked to occupational silica exposure. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Association between lead and circulating markers of inflammation among traffic enforcers in Metro Manila, Philippines: the MMDA traffic enforcer ’s health study
ConclusionsLow-level B-Pb may increase hs-CRP among traffic enforcers. Moreover, the study suggests that Pb via the oxidative and inflammation pathways may have an essential role in the development of cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, MMDA and the Department of Labor and Employment can use our study ’s findings as evidence to conduct routine screening of blood heavy metals, especially Pb, among MMDA and other traffic enforcers as part of their yearly medical examination. Pesticide use patterns and their association with cytokine levels in Mexican flower workers
ConclusionThese findings indicate that pesticides may possess immunotoxic properties, contributing to increased inflammatory response. However, further comprehensive epidemiological studies are needed to establish a causal relationship. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)
