Underground emissions and miners ’ personal exposure to diesel and renewable diesel exhaust in a Swedish iron ore mine
ConclusionMiners ’ exposures to EC and NO2 were lower than those in older studies indicating the effect of sharpened emission legislation and new technologies. Using modern vehicles with diesel particulate filter (DPF) may have contributed to the lower ambient underground PM concentration and exposures. The semi-volatile behavior of the PAHs might have led to inefficient removal in the engines aftertreatment systems and delayed removal by the workplace ventilation system due to partitioning to indoor surfaces. The results indicate that secondary emissions can be an important source of gaseous PAH exposure in the mine. (S...

Risk communication about work-related stress disorders in healthcare workers: a scoping review
ConclusionsRisk communication on risk factors and early signs of stress-related disorders is not that well studied and evaluated in an occupational healthcare setting. Bullying behavior and employee well-being: how do different forms of social support buffer against depression, anxiety and exhaustion?
ConclusionExtending previous research, the findings suggest that the interaction between workplace bullying and support depends not only on the source of support, but also on the type of support and the outcome considered. While support from colleagues on board was important for seafarers, company and non-work support must not be overlooked. Interventions should, therefore, encourage the development of peer support and ensure access to shore-based support for workers in remote locations. Effects of an ergonomic intervention program based on the PRECEDE –PROCEED model for reducing work-related health problems and exposure risks among emergency medical dispatchers
ConclusionsAn ergonomic intervention program based on a systematic framework such as the PRECEDE –PROCEED model and on-site interventions can be effective in improving and enhancing the working conditions of emergency medical dispatchers. Therefore, it is suggested that ergonomic interventions be implemented based on standard and valid behavioral change models such as PRECEDE–PROCEED model in other work environments in which musculoskeletal pain and digital eye strain are common. Serum intracellular adhesion molecule-1 and interleukin-8 as predictors of pulmonary impairment among workers in secondary copper smelters
ConclusionOccupational exposure to copper and arsenic was associated with ventilatory and radiological impairment, with a corresponding increase in the serum level of ICAM-1 and IL8, which can be used as biomarkers for pulmonary impairment among copper smelter workers. Physical working conditions and subsequent sickness absence: a record linkage follow-up study among 19 –39-year-old municipal employees
ConclusionExposure to physically demanding work is associated with a higher number of sickness absence days among municipal employees below 40  years of age. Physical working conditions should be considered when aiming to support later work ability. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Screening of health workers exposed to SARS-CoV-2 in a university hospital in the south of France
DiscussionOur study suggests that HWs who tested positive for COVID-19 are often asymptomatic. Therefore, PPE is pivotal to prevent HWs to patients and HWs to HWs transmission during workshifts. Contact tracing and screening is essential to limit the spread of the virus within the hospital. On the other hand, HWs working in COVID-19 units are not more often infected probably because they have a higher risk awareness than other HWs. Back pain occurred due to changes in routinary activities among Brazilian schoolteachers during the COVID-19 pandemic
ConclusionDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, schoolteachers reported a high prevalence of emergence of back pain, which delineates a contradiction in terms: on the one hand, distance education allows social distancing that contributes to the preservation of teachers ’ health by reducing the risk of contamination by COVID-19. On the other hand, it imposes new demands that—in disagreement with working conditions—can threaten the health of these workers. Abusive leadership, psychological well-being, and intention to quit during the COVID-19 pandemic: a moderated mediation analysis among Quebec ’s healthcare system workers
ConclusionsThe obtained results underline the importance of work-organization conditions and leadership style on healthcare system workers ’ psychological health and their intention to quit their jobs during a pandemic. In particular, and given their key role, leaders/managers must be sensitized concerning leadership style and its possible effects on their employees’ psychological well-being and intention to quit. Therefore, traini ng programs should be offered to leaders/managers to prevent adoption of abusive leadership styles. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Absenteeism and associated labour costs according to depressive symptom severity in the German general population: why preventive strategies matter
ConclusionThe present results indicate that increasing depressive symptom severity is associated with increasing absenteeism and employer costs. They emphasize the need for implementation, realignment or extension of professional work-site health promotion programmes aiming at the improvement and maintenance of employee health and the reduction of labour costs associated with depression-related sick leave.
