Sleep of recruits throughout basic military training and its relationships with stress, recovery, and fatigue
ConclusionsThe reported mean sleep duration of 6.3  h per night may negatively impact training outcomes across BMT. Combining both subjective and objective measures of sleep best explained relationships between sleep metrics stress, fatigue and recovery. Perceived sleep quality was most strongly related to change in stress, recovery, or post-sleep fatigue. (Source: International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health)

Shiftworkers ’ attitude to their work hours, positive or negative, and why?
ConclusionIt was concluded that shift systems often included many different shift characteristics, that night shift systems had a large proportion of long shifts, and that split shifts mainly occurred in roster day work. Furthermore, it was concluded that the attitude to the worker ’s present shift systems seems to be positive for the majority, with the highest level for those who work either fixed days or nights, compared to those who work alternating shifts (including night shifts). Negative attitude to shift systems was more linked to social difficulties, fatigue or sleep problems due to the shift schedule, than to sc...

The effectiveness of educational interventions aimed at agricultural workers ’ knowledge, behaviour, and risk perception for reducing the risk of pesticide exposure: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionIt was determined that educational interventions are an appropriate method for reducing the pesticide exposure risks of agricultural workers. Investigating the impact of modified mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program on occupational burnout and other mental health status among nonmedical staff in a hospital: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsMindfulness training can be used as an effective way to improve occupational burnout, anxiety, and stress in occupations other than health professionals. Its effect is stable for at least a few months. It is recommended that future studies focus on investigating the feasible way to integrate this training into the working environment. Forthcoming studies should also determine whether the impact of this intervention will last longer and find possible ways to extend its influence. Blood pressure states transitions among bus drivers: the application of multi-state Markov model
ConclusionsEarly preventive measures on the progression of hypertension should be taken for Chinese bus drivers, and at least one physical examination per year is strongly recommended. The government and bus companies should pay more attention to these kinds of bus drivers with high probabilities of hypertension: male, older than 40  years, with the higher values of BMI and blood lipid. The derived findings of sojourn time, transition probabilities and survival probabilities can provide reference for health professionals to make targeted intervention to reduce bus drivers’ hypertension occurrence. Role of air pollution in chronic kidney disease: an update on evidence, mechanisms and mitigation strategies
AbstractAir pollution results from a variable and complex mixture of harmful gases and suspended particles and is the most worrisome of all environmental hazards. It is implicated in several non -communicable diseases and is recognized to be a public health problem. Though the initial exposure to air pollution is through the respiratory system, kidneys are thought to be exposed to higher concentrations owing to their filtration function. Chronic kidney disease is the insidious end result of several disease processes which cumulatively form a large healthcare burden, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. There i...

Avoidable mortality for causes amenable to medical care and suicide in physicians in Spain
ConclusionAlthough the accessibility to the healthcare system and to the pharmacological drugs could suggest that physicians would present low rates for causes amenable to medical care and high rates of suicide, our results show that this is not the case in Spain. Retirement age does not modify the association of prior working conditions with self-rated health and mortality in retirees: results from a prospective study of retired French workers
ConclusionThese results suggest that bad working conditions before retirement have long-term detrimental effects on health and mortality in retirees and that retirement age does not modulate these effects. Improving work environment rather than modifying retirement age should be prioritized to promote health and reduce mortality not only in workers but also in retirees.
