Middle-Ear Resonance Frequency and Eustachian Tube Function in Players of Wind Instruments
Conclusion: This is the first study to uses multifrequency tympanometry to examine the middle-ear RF and eustachian tube function of wind instrument musicians in an orchestra. Eustachian tube dysfunction was found to be more prominent and a higher RF of the middle ear was seen after a performance, especially in players of wood wind instruments. However, the effect of these on the professional performance of players of wind instruments should be investigated in future work.Folia Phoniatr Logop (Source: Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica)

The Effect of Clear Speech on Cantonese Alaryngeal Speakers ’ Intelligibility
Conclusion: Preliminary data indicate that CS may significantly affect Cantonese alaryngeal speakers ’ speaking rate and intelligibility. However, intelligibility appeared to vary considerably across speakers. Further research involving larger, heterogeneous groups of speakers and listeners alongside longer and more refined CS training protocols should be conducted to confirm that CS can improve Cantonese alaryngeal speakers’ intelligibility.Folia Phoniatr Logop (Source: Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica)

How Accurate Are the Consistency Labels Used in Hong Kong? An Objective Study of the Consistency of Thickened Liquids Using International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative and Consistometric Measurements
Conclusion: Though prepared strictly following the manufacturer ’s instructions, the thickened liquids fail to faithfully correlate with the standardized norms established according to the IDDSI framework and the objective consistometric measurement using a Bostwick consistometer. Therefore, caution must be exercised when administering a thickened diet followi ng the manufacturer’s instructions for patients with dysphagia. (Source: Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica)

Comparing the Temporal Aspects of Velopharyngeal Closure in Children with and without Cleft Palate
Conclusions: The examined temporal parameters offer more accurate characterizations of velopharygeal closure, thereby allowing more accurate clinical assessments and more appropriate treatment procedures. Children with cleft palate showed longer nasalization durations compared to those without the same. Thus, the degree of hypernasality in children with cleft palate may affect the temporal aspects of nasalization.Folia Phoniatr Logop (Source: Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica)
