In the era of primary prophylaxis in hemophilia, what types of orthopedic surgical interventions have been published in the 2020-2023 period and in which countries?
Expert Rev Hematol. 2023 Nov 17. doi: 10.1080/17474086.2023.2285979. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Primary prophylaxis has significantly reduced the number of orthopedic surgical procedures performed on patients with hemophilia (PWH) worldwide. However, studies on orthopedic surgery in PWH are still being published in the medical literature.AREAS COVERED: The aim of this article is to determine the types of orthopedic surgical interventions in PWH published between 2020 and 2023 and the countries in which they are published.EXPERT OPINION: The following orthopedic surgical procedures are still performed on PW...

Use of direct oral anticoagulants and low molecular weight heparin in venous thromboembolism associated with cancer: real-world evidence in Argentina
CONCLUSIONS: DOACs and strategy A were the most frequently used agent and strategy, respectively. There were no differences between medications or strategies used. The results must be interpreted with caution, and it is a retrospective single-center study, probably with information and selection bias.PMID:37955142 | DOI:10.1080/17474086.2023.2281945 (Source: Expert Review of Hematology)

New developments in the diagnosis and characterization of Waldenstr öm's macroglobulinemia
Expert Rev Hematol. 2023 Oct 31. doi: 10.1080/17474086.2023.2270779. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM) is defined as a lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL) with immunoglobulin M (IgM) monoclonal gammopathy and morphologic evidence of bone marrow infiltration by lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma. Immunophenotyping and genotyping provide a firm pathological basis for diagnosis and are particularly valuable in differential diagnosis between WM and related diseases. Emerging technologies in mutational analysis present new opportunities, but challenges remain around standardization of method...

The delicate balance of graft versus leukemia and graft versus host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Expert Rev Hematol. 2023 Oct 31:1-20. doi: 10.1080/17474086.2023.2273847. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: The curative basis of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) relies in part upon the graft versus leukemia (GvL) effect, whereby donor immune cells recognize and eliminate recipient malignant cells. However, alloreactivity of donor cells against recipient tissues may also be deleterious. Chronic graft versus host disease (cGvHD) is an immunologic phenomenon wherein alloreactive donor T cells aberrantly react against host tissues, leading to damaging inflammatory symptoms.AREAS COVERED: He...
