Predicting the development of hemophilic arthropathy in patients with hemophilia based on patient age: a retrospective single-center database study
CONCLUSIONS: In PWH, the risk of developing hemophilic arthropathy accumulates continuously over the patient's lifetime, allowing predictions about the ages at which such damage and joint replacement surgery may occur.PMID:38015035 | DOI:10.1080/17474086.2023.2289536 (Source: Expert Review of Hematology)

Fatigue and health-related quality of life in patients with immune thrombocytopenia: a longitudinal assessment in China
CONCLUSION: ITP adults' fatigue and HRQoL were impaired. Patients' fatigue improved at discharge but worsened at three months after discharge, while HRQoL gradually improved over time.PMID:38009277 | DOI:10.1080/17474086.2023.2286730 (Source: Expert Review of Hematology)

Challenges facing minimal residual disease testing for acute myeloid leukemia and promising strategies to overcome them
Expert Rev Hematol. 2023 Nov 18:1-10. doi: 10.1080/17474086.2023.2285985. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Minimal residual disease (MRD) has been an important biomarker for relapse prediction and treatment choice in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). False-positive or false-negative MRD results due to the low specificity and sensitivity of techniques such as multiparameter flow cytometry (MFC), real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and next-generation sequencing, as well as the biological characteristics of residual leukemia cells, including antigen shift, clone involution, heterogeneous ge...

The promise of novel treatments for severe chronic neutropenia
Expert Rev Hematol. 2023 Nov 18. doi: 10.1080/17474086.2023.2285987. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Severe chronic neutropenia, i.e. absolute neutrophil count (ANC) less than 0.5 × 109/L, is a serious health problem because it predisposes patients to recurrent bacterial infections. Management radically changed with the discovery that granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) could be used to effectively treat most patients; therapy required regular subcutaneous injections. In the early days of G-CSF therapy, there were concerns that it might somehow overstimulate the bone marrow and cause myelodysplasia (...

In the era of primary prophylaxis in hemophilia, what types of orthopedic surgical interventions have been published in the 2020-2023 period and in which countries?
Expert Rev Hematol. 2023 Nov 17. doi: 10.1080/17474086.2023.2285979. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Primary prophylaxis has significantly reduced the number of orthopedic surgical procedures performed on patients with hemophilia (PWH) worldwide. However, studies on orthopedic surgery in PWH are still being published in the medical literature.AREAS COVERED: The aim of this article is to determine the types of orthopedic surgical interventions in PWH published between 2020 and 2023 and the countries in which they are published.EXPERT OPINION: The following orthopedic surgical procedures are still performed on PW...

Use of direct oral anticoagulants and low molecular weight heparin in venous thromboembolism associated with cancer: real-world evidence in Argentina
CONCLUSIONS: DOACs and strategy A were the most frequently used agent and strategy, respectively. There were no differences between medications or strategies used. The results must be interpreted with caution, and it is a retrospective single-center study, probably with information and selection bias.PMID:37955142 | DOI:10.1080/17474086.2023.2281945 (Source: Expert Review of Hematology)
