Surgical management of colorectal liver metastases —a practical clinical approach
ConclusionAlthough hepatic resection remains the only potentially curative treatment strategy for patients with CRLM, a  multidisciplinary approach is essential for optimal treatment. A clear definition of treatment goal (curative vs. palliative) at the time of disease diagnosis determines the further therapeutic course. Preoperative estimation of liver functional reserve is a key factor in the decision-making pro cess for CRLM resectability. (Source: European Surgery)

Resident evaluations: what are the predictors of future negative outcomes in surgical education?
ConclusionAlthough multiple subjective and objective variables, including national standardized tests, of surgical trainees are measured and reported, none of the variables collected over 10  years in 116 residents including over 3000 evaluations were independently associated with negative outcomes. This points to a need for development of new objective variables that can predict negative outcomes in residency. Preemptive identification of “at-risk” residents remains elusive. Pseudoaneurysms after curative-aim gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma: clinical presentation and management
ConclusionThe extent of lymphadenectomy and the neoadjuvant treatments did not seem to have an impact on the onset of pseudoaneurysms. Surgical site infections represent a  significant risk factor for pseudoaneurysm rupture. Radiological treatment could be safely performed in hemodynamically stable patients and represented a feasible alternative to surgery. (Source: European Surgery)

Long-term results for palmar hyperhidrosis and palmar hyperhidrosis with axillary and/or plantar sweating: T3+T4 sympathicotomy vs. T4 sympathicotomy
ConclusionBoth T3+T4 sympathicotomy and T4 sympathicotomy were safe and effective, but T4 sympathicotomy led to a  lower incidence of compensatory hyperhidrosis. T3+T4 sympathicotomy may be more suitable for patients with palmar hyperhidrosis accompanied by axillary and/or plantar sweating. (Source: European Surgery)

Impact of previous abdominal surgery on the outcome of fundoplication for medically refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease in children and young adults
ConclusionIn cases of PAS in children and young adults, FP for refractory GERD might necessitate longer operative times and longer hospital stays but can be performed with surgery-related short- and long-term complication rates comparable to cases without PAS. (Source: European Surgery)

Single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy vs. conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy: a meta-analysis of the literature
ConclusionThis meta-analysis demonstrated that except for improved postoperative pain at 24  h, SILC did not show improved outcomes when compared to CLC. With the presently published RCTs, we are unable to provide statistical analysis on further outcomes such as postoperative complications. Hence, the choice of procedure remains largely the decision of the operating surgeon. (Source: European Surgery)

Gender-specific prevalence of sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus disease in Turkey: A  retrospective analysis of a large cohort
ConclusionThe female gender prevalence of sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus disease is 25% in Turkey. Pilonidal sinus disease surgery is mainly performed in secondary care hospitals; therefore, unpublished data from these centers may contribute more to pilonidal sinus disease research. Real-world evidence with magnetic sphincter augmentation for gastroesophageal reflux disease: a  scoping review
ConclusionA  consensus on acquisition and interpretation of high-resolution manometry and impedance planimetry data is needed to gain better understanding of physiology, to improve patient selection, and to pave the way for a personalized surgical approach in antireflux surgery. Adenocarcinoma of the duodenojejunal flexure: our recent experience
ConclusionThe insidious onset and vague abdominal symptoms, even when the disease has progressed, coupled with the difficulty of viewing this location and performing a  biopsy, make diagnosing these neoplasms particularly difficult. The only possible curative option is surgical resection. A higher degree of suspicion and a more aggressive and persistent investigation should lead to earlier treatment, a higher curative resectability rate, and therefore better l ong-term results.
