Nonneoplastic Inflammatory Conditions of the Breast
Although rare, nonneoplastic inflammatory breast conditions are encountered in both community and academic settings. Imaging characteristics of these breast conditions can closely resemble breast carcinoma; and, therefore, core breast biopsy often is necessary to exclude malignancy. Knowledge of the radiologic and histopathologic features can help guide management and reassure clinicians and patients. Our aim in this article is to discuss specific imaging characteristics, management, and treatment options for nonneoplastic inflammatory conditions of the breast, which can be divided into immunologic, granulomatous, and infe...

Pediatric Upper Cervical Spinal Injury: An Overview of Anatomy and Mechanism of Injury
In this article, we discuss pediatric cervical spine anatomy and congenital variants that may mimic upper cervical spinal injuries. In addition, we identify the imaging modalities and imaging utilization to evaluate cervical spine trauma. We review the role of plain radiographs and CT scans for bony and joint injuries and MRI for evaluation of ligamentous involvement and purely ligamentous injury. Finally, we illustrate, with case examples, injuries most often encountered in pediatric cervical spine trauma; and pitfalls, including ossification centers, variable degrees of fusion, and pseudosubluxation. Pancoast Tumors: Persistent Diagnostic Challenge
This article reviews the anatomy of the thoracic inlet and the clinical and imaging features of this unusual manifestation of bronchogenic carcinoma, including conventional radiographic features and the CT and MR characteristics. It also discusses the diagnostic algorithm, the therapy, and the prognosis of patients afflicted with a Pancoast tumor, emphasizing the contribution of imaging to the diagnostic and planning process. MRI Evaluation of Pregnant Women Presenting With Acute Abdominal Pain
MRI is performed increasingly to evaluate pregnant women who present to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain. MRI provides a radiation-free alternative to CT and is less operator dependent than ultrasound. Our institution's protocol and the MRI appearance of common nonobstetric causes of acute abdominal pain are presented. (Source: Contemporary Diagnostic Radiology)

Gradient Recall Echo and Susceptibility-Weighted Imaging: Interpretative Approach and Contribution to the Differential Diagnosis of Intracranial Pathology
This article illustrates the role of gradient recall echo (GRE) and susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) sequences in neuroradiology. Although the main focus of the article is a discussion and depiction of characteristic imaging features of GRE and SWI, a brief discussion of the physics involved also is provided to enable a better understanding of the concepts involved. The clinical usefulness of these imaging sequences over a broad spectrum of intracranial pathology, including hemorrhage, thrombosis, neoplasia, infection, metabolic disorders, and posttreatment changes is emphasized. The appearance, distribution, and asso...
