Are self-reported medical conditions and medicine use from middle-aged and older adults credible? A validation study comparing Danish SHARE-data with National Health Register data
CONCLUSIONS: Although Danish data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe on medical conditions and medicine vary, the data are valid for epidemiological use for most medicine data, and for diseases associated with hospitalizations or influencing everyday life. Caution is warranted for self-reported data from 70+ year olds and people with lower educational level.PMID:37903678 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.09.009 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)

Joint associations of asthma and sleep duration with cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality: A prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Asthma and short sleep duration may have additive interactions on CVD and all-cause mortality risk, highlighting the importance of controlling asthma in combination with improving sleep duration.PMID:37865213 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.10.004 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)

Maternal prenatal social experiences and offspring epigenetic aging from birth to mid-childhood
CONCLUSIONS: Children whose mothers experienced racial bias or discrimination exhibited slower EAA. Future studies are warranted to confirm these findings and establish associations of early-life EAA with long-term health outcomes.PMID:37839726 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.10.003 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)

Gone with the Weed: Incidents of Adolescent Marijuana Use in the United States, 1976-2021
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence rates of marijuana use among at-risk students, especially those from disadvantaged families, remained high over the study period. The modified Poisson (mixture) approach serves as the preferred tool for modeling GRC responses. It is essential to distinguish among risk, at-risk incidence, and overall incidence when assessing substance use and other risky behaviors.PMID:37839727 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.10.002 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)
