Examining the Heterogeneity by Employment Status in Dynamics Between BMI and Cognition: A Longitudinal Cohort Study of the Korean Aging Population
CONCLUSIONS: The findings highlight the risk of obesity (BMI ≥ 25) on cognitive decline, particularly among non-employed individuals. This illuminates the critical role of labor activity in regulating the impact of BMI on cognitive function among an aging population.PMID:37648180 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.08.006 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)

Gender Difference in the Effects of Chronic Diseases on Daily Physical Activity Patterns in Older Adults: Analysis of Objectively Measured Physical Activity in NHATS 2021
CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis demonstrates that although for most diseases, irrespective of gender, the daily PA patterns of individuals with the disease are negatively altered compared to individuals without the disease, the magnitude of the decline in PA is often significantly different between women and men, depending on the time of day. Hence designing personalized physical activity interventions that take both gender and diurnal pattern of PA into account can potentially improve quality of life for patients across both genders.PMID:37625499 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.08.004 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)

Age at Menarche and Asthma Onset among US Girls and Women: Findings from NHANES, 2001-2018
CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate that early menarche may represent a risk factor for childhood-onset asthma in the US, indicating the need for timely and effective management of individuals with early menarche to prevent asthma.PMID:37598789 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.08.003 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)

Relationships between early-life family poverty and relative socioeconomic status with gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy later in life
CONCLUSIONS: Early-life poverty and relative SES are associated with GDM; understanding mechanisms underlying these associations may help identify novel intervention targets to reduce socioeconomic disparities in GDM.PMID:37573949 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.08.002 (Source: Annals of Epidemiology)
