Effect of Esketamine on Postoperative Delirium in Patients Undergoing Cardiac Valve Replacement with Cardiopulmonary Bypass: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: A single dose of esketamine (0.25 mg/kg) injected intravenously before anesthesia induction reduced the incidence of delirium in relatively young patients with ASA grade Ⅱ or Ⅲ who underwent on-pump cardiac surgery.PMID:38446699 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006925 (Source: Anesthesia and Analgesia)

Sirtuin 3 Mediated by Spinal cMyc-Enhancer of Zeste Homology 2 Pathway Plays an Important Role in Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Related Neuropathic Pain Model
CONCLUSION: These results demonstrated that spinal Sirt3 decrease in gp120M-induced neuropathic pain was mediated by cMyc-EZH2/H3K27me3 activity in an epigenetic manner. This study provided new insight into the mechanisms of neuropathic pain in HIV patients with chronic opioids.PMID:38446700 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006873 (Source: Anesthesia and Analgesia)

Carboxyhemoglobin in Cardiac Surgery Patients and Its Association with Risk Factors and Biomarkers of Hemolysis
CONCLUSIONS: CO-Hb may represent a readily obtainable and frequently measured biomarker that has a moderate association with known biomarkers of and risk factors for hemolysis in on-pump cardiac surgery patients. These findings have potential clinical implications and warrant further investigation.PMID:38446702 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006915 (Source: Anesthesia and Analgesia)

Association of Intravenous Neostigmine and Anticholinergics or Sugammadex with Postoperative Delirium: A Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Compared to neostigmine, use of sugammadex for reversal of neuromuscular block was not associated with an increased risk of postoperative delirium in this retrospective single-center study. Though sugammadex was associated with a statistically significant increased risk of postoperative early delirium, the difference was small and not clinically relevant, and may reflect the presence of unknown confounders.PMID:38446705 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006939 (Source: Anesthesia and Analgesia)

Lack of Validity of Absolute Percentage Errors in Estimated Operating Room Case Durations as a Measure of Operating Room Performance: A Focused Narrative Review
Anesth Analg. 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1213/ANE.0000000000006931. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCommonly reported end points for operating room (OR) and surgical scheduling performance are the percentages of estimated OR times whose absolute values differ from the actual OR times by ≥15%, or by various intervals from ≥5 to ≥60 minutes. We show that these metrics are invalid assessments of OR performance. Specifically, from 19 relevant articles, multiple OR management decisions that would increase OR efficiency or productivity would also increase the absolute percentage error of the estimated case durations. Instead, OR ma...
