Improving Neuromuscular Monitoring Through Education-Based Interventions and Studying Its Association With Adverse Postoperative Outcomes: A Retrospective Observational Study
CONCLUSIONS: Our education-based interventions were associated with both TOF utilization and 90-day mortality but were not associated with either the odds of PPCs or sugammadex dosing. TOF monitoring was associated with reduced odds of PPCs and 90-day mortality.PMID:38364243 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006722 (Source: Anesthesia and Analgesia)

Potential Predictors for Deterioration of Renal Function After Transfusion
CONCLUSIONS: Surprisingly, only the recipients' characteristics played a decisive role in AKI prediction. Based on this result, we speculate that the selection of a specific pRBC may have less influence than recipient characteristics.PMID:38364244 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006720 (Source: Anesthesia and Analgesia)

The First Etherization in England: New Research Regarding the Identity of the First Patient, Miss Lonsdale
Anesth Analg. 2024 Mar 1;138(3):684-691. doi: 10.1213/ANE.0000000000006501. Epub 2024 Feb 16.ABSTRACTOn December 19, 1846, at the London home of Francis Boott, dentist James Robinson administered the vapor of diethyl ether to a young female patient named Miss Lonsdale. This was the earliest known attempt in England to provide painless operating conditions for a dental extraction, and it was successful. Many authors have since written much about Boott and Robinson, but scarcely anything is known about Miss Lonsdale. In contemporaneous accounts of the event, Robinson referred to his patient as a "young person" and a "young l...

Renin as a Prognostic Marker in Intensive Care and Perioperative Settings: A Scoping Review
Anesth Analg. 2023 Oct 23. doi: 10.1213/ANE.0000000000006682. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSerum renin increases in response to sympathetic nerve activation and hypotension. Recent studies have reported the association of serum renin levels with adverse clinical outcomes in acute care settings. This scoping review aimed to systematically review the available literature on renin as a prognostic marker in intensive care and perioperative patients. We searched for studies published since inception until March 31, 2023, which assessed the association between serum renin levels and clinical outcomes or the effect of synthetic ...
