Diabetic Foot Amputation Prevention During COVID-19
In this case report, the treatment of a patient with a diabetic foot ulcer on his left foot was interrupted by the novel coronavirus 2019 pandemic lockdown in India. The author guided the patient via telephone and online services. Based on the history given by the patient, the lesion started as blistering from improperly fitted footwear that then evolved into multiple infected ulcerations on the dorsal surface of the great toe (osteomyelitis with septic arthritis of the joint). Based on a radiograph and other photographs of the foot lesions, the author prescribed amoxicillin/clavulanic acid in combination with linezolid fo...

Burn Survivors’ Experiences of the Ongoing Challenges after Discharge in South Korea: A Qualitative Study
CONCLUSIONS
Several participants expressed consistent difficulties with distressing symptoms such as wound pain, pruritus, sleep disturbances, and unpredictable scar and symptom changes. Survivors further described the financial burden associated with high expenditures from nonreimbursable rehabilitation expenses, and the high cost incurred with consistent skin care. By providing support based on their needs, appropriate interventions would be more readily available for burn survivors. (Source: Advances in Skin and Wound Care)

Norepinephrine-Induced Peripheral Ischemia Leading to Gangrene: A Case Series
Norepinephrine is used in the acute care setting to establish and maintain hemodynamic stability in patients with hypotension. Although it is often a lifesaving medication, norepinephrine may lead to profound vascular insufficiency in the extremities, resulting in dry gangrene and skin necrosis. The purpose of this article is to present a case series of skin complications related to treatment with norepinephrine and review the pathophysiology behind these complications. The authors also explore risk stratification as it relates to history and clinical presentation with subsequent focus on contingencies to mitigate the adve...

Resection of Anterior and Lateral Muscle Compartments Does Not Preclude Limb Salvage and Functions
CONCLUSIONS
Delay in CS diagnosis can have devastating consequences, resulting in major amputation. In cases where myonecrosis is isolated to two or fewer compartments, complete compartment muscle resection can be safely performed, and limb preservation and function can be maintained with aggressive wound management and physical therapy. The Effect of Chitosan in Wound Healing: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS
Although the number of trials of new chitosan dressings has been increasing, studies on the relationship between chitosan and wound healing have been limited. Current data suggest that chitosan does not slow wound healing. However, the small number of available trials restricted adequate interpretation of the existing results. Future research needs to be rigorously designed to confirm any clinically relevant effect of chitosan in wound healing. (Source: Advances in Skin and Wound Care)

Manuka Honey: Feasibility and Safety in Postoperative Neurosurgical Wound Care
CONCLUSIONS
In this small case series of neurosurgical patients who were at risk of poor wound healing, the application of medical-grade ALH was well tolerated without patient-reported adverse events. The ALH may have prevented the need for operative debridement in the majority of patients. Further prospective studies are necessary to establish its efficacy in wound healing in the neurosurgical population. (Source: Advances in Skin and Wound Care)

Herpes Zoster (Shingles) Patient-Centered Wound Outcomes: A Literature Review
CONCLUSIONS
Randomized clinical research focused on medications improving patient pain, healing, sleep, or vision outcomes. Research is needed measuring outcomes of adding occlusive dressings to optimal care and effects on secondary infections and treatment costs. (Source: Advances in Skin and Wound Care)
