Volumetric Evaluation of Dead Space in Ischial Pressure Injuries Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging: A Case Series
CONCLUSIONS To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report on volumetric evaluation of dead space in ischial pressure injuries. The authors believe that the 3D reconstruction process would enable adequate dead space obliteration in ischial pressure injuries. The authors propose that preoperative MRI scans in patients with ischial pressure injury should become an essential part of the process. (Source: Advances in Skin and Wound Care)

The Lived Experience of Patients with an Ostomy: A Pilot Study on the Effect of Ostomy Pouch Opacity
CONCLUSIONS Pouching systems that are opaque while still allowing for assessment of the pouching contents and stoma are ideal. When this is not available, providers should consider the patient’s wishes to alleviate any psychosocial effects the opacity of the pouching system may have. (Source: Advances in Skin and Wound Care)

Analysis of Factors Influencing Anxiety and Depression among Hospitalized Patients with Chronic Wounds
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of anxiety and depression among hospitalized patients with a chronic wound and explore the influence of demographic factors, disease characteristics, social support, and coping styles on their mental status. METHODS Investigators recruited 216 patients with a chronic wound. The Self-rating Anxiety Scale and Self-rating Depression Scale were used to measure anxiety and depression. Patients’ coping style and their social support were assessed through face-to-face interviews. RESULTS Overall, 36.6% of participants presented with symptoms of anxiety, and 37% showed de...

Prolidase Deficiency Causing Recalcitrant Leg Ulcerations in Siblings
Prolidase deficiency (PD) is a rare autosomal recessive genodermatosis with variable clinical manifestations. It results from a mutation in the peptidase-D gene that leads to abnormal activity of the prolidase enzyme, an important player in collagen catabolism. The authors report the case of two siblings presenting with dysmorphic features, disturbed blood panel, and recalcitrant leg ulcerations of several years’ duration. Sequencing of the 15 exons and of the intron/exon junction regions of the peptidase-D gene revealed the presence of a homozygous pathogenic variant c.549-1G> A. An ointment with 5% proline and 5% glyci...

Skin Autofluorescence as a Novel and Noninvasive Technology for Advanced Glycation End Products in Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
OBJECTIVE Skin autofluorescence (SAF) has been suggested as a novel and noninvasive technique for assessing tissue accumulation of advanced glycation end products in diabetes and related complications. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the use of SAF in diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). DATA SOURCES PubMed/MEDLINE and other digital databases. STUDY SELECTION The authors included studies comparing the SAF levels in patients with DFU with a non-DFU group to determine its association with DFU risk. DATA EXTRACTION Collected data included the SAF method and its values in DF...
