Association between endocrine and neuropsychological endophenotypes and gambling disorder severity
CONCLUSIONS: These results provide updated information about the comprehension of the interaction between neuroendocrine features, clinical variables, and severity of GD. Thus, neurobiological functions seem to be strongly related to GD severity.PMID:38447412 | DOI:10.1016/j.addbeh.2024.107968 (Source: Addictive Behaviors)

Correlates of using E-cigarettes with high nicotine concentrations among U.S. adults who exclusively vape E-cigarettes or dual use with cigarettes
CONCLUSIONS: High-nicotine e-cigarette use might be elevated in subpopulations that face greater risks for vaping (e.g., never smokers, young adults) than groups who benefit from the potential harm reduction. Regulatory restrictions on high-nicotine products may selectively affect some subgroups adversely impacted by vaping.PMID:38432013 | DOI:10.1016/j.addbeh.2024.107986 (Source: Addictive Behaviors)

A four-year longitudinal analysis examining the effects of e-cigarette advertisements and disparities among youth with internalizing problems
CONCLUSIONS: E-cigarette advertisements can exert a lasting influence indirectly by diminishing harm perception, particularly among those with lower internalizing problems. Adolescents with higher internalizing problems exhibit lower susceptibility to advertisement influence, yet their perceived harm of e-cigarettes is notably lower than their peers with fewer internalizing problems. These disparities underscore the need for tailored prevention strategies: implementing anti-e-cigarette education programs for adolescents with low internalizing problems and providing mental health care for those facing internalizing challeng...

Social anxiety and problematic social media use: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Addict Behav. 2024 Feb 22;153:107995. doi: 10.1016/j.addbeh.2024.107995. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSome theories posit a close relationship between social anxiety and problematic social media use; however, empirical findings are inconsistent, and existing hypotheses are conflicting. Hence, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to clarify the relationship between social anxiety and problematic social media use. After searching and screening the literature, we identified 53 studies, including 59,928 participants and 56 effect sizes, for analysis. A meta-analysis was subsequently performed using CMA software....

Longitudinal associations between adult-supervised drinking during adolescence and alcohol misuse from ages 25-31  years: A comparison of Australia and the United States
Addict Behav. 2024 Feb 13;153:107984. doi: 10.1016/j.addbeh.2024.107984. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrior studies suggest that adult supervised drinking in adolescence predicts greater adolescent alcohol misuse. Long-term follow up data examining how adult supervised drinking during adolescence relates to alcohol misuse in adulthood are lacking. Longitudinal data from the International Youth Development Study tested associations between adult supervised drinking during adolescence (ages 13-16; 2002-2004) and adult alcohol misuse (ages 25-31; 2014, 2018, 2020). Cross-nationally matched samples were compared in Washington...
