Facilitating exit from encampments: combining low-barrier transitional housing with stabilizing treatment for substance related problems
CONCLUSIONS: During the 1st year of operation, low-barrier transitional housing plus clinical stabilization care was a feasible and acceptable model for former encampment residents, 49% of whom engaged with SUD treatment, and 25% of whom transitioned to permanent housing.PMID:37884986 | PMC:PMC10601141 | DOI:10.1186/s13722-023-00420-y (Source: Addiction Science and Clinical Practice)

Problematic substance use among patients in a Swedish outpatient psychiatry setting: staff and manager perceptions of digital options for increased intervention access
CONCLUSIONS: The study reveals a concern that implementing digital interventions in psychiatry will create additional work or be technically challenging. The staff see significant advantages from the patient perspective, but they feel that they themselves need training in implementing digital interventions. In order to establish constructive implementation of digital interventions for SUD in psychiatry, staff attitudes and concerns need to be considered and addressed. This study was conducted within the Swedish healthcare system and the findings may not generalize to other countries with differing healthcare systems.PMID:3...

A 13-item Health of the Nation Outcome Scale (HoNOS-13): validation by item response theory (IRT) in patients with substance use disorder
CONCLUSIONS: We were able to validate the 13-item questionnaire including medication compliance and suggest that the HoNOS-13 can be recommended as a clinical evaluation tool to assess the problems and treatment needs for inpatients with SUD. Interestingly, the majority of item response categories are endorsed by respondents who are below and above the average levels of HoNOS. This indicates that the scale is able to discriminate between participants both at the low and at the high ends of the latent trait continuum. More importantly, the new item 13 has a good discriminative power and covers a broad range of the latent tr...

Effectiveness and feasibility of a motivational interviewing intake (MII) intervention for increasing client engagement in outpatient addiction treatment: an effectiveness-implementation hybrid design protocol
CONCLUSION: This trial of an MII intervention will investigate the feasibility of a motivational intervention as an initial contact with substance use treatment-seeking clients as well as indicators of intervention effectiveness within the systems where it is employed. Trial registration Clinicaltrials.gov identifier: NCT05489068.PMID:37865777 | PMC:PMC10589931 | DOI:10.1186/s13722-023-00412-y (Source: Addiction Science and Clinical Practice)

GHB: a life-threatening drug complications and outcome of GHB detoxification treatment-an observational clinical study
CONCLUSIONS: In our sample, GHB users were young, well-educated people and male and female in equal number. Detoxification proved to be dangerous for GHB-addicted patients. The presence of delirium and the need for transfer to an intensive care unit during detoxification treatment was extraordinarily high, even with appropriate clinical treatment. The reasons for this remain unknown. Therefore an intensive care unit should be available for GHB detoxification treatment. Further studies are needed to evaluate the options for prophylactic treatment of delirium during detoxification.PMID:37864267 | PMC:PMC10590033 | DOI:10.118...
